[I387]Interesting Facts About The Holocaust
by Anthony Wayne, Ant
1. Lotteries Are Nothing New

Lotteries did not just begin in the last few decades. In fact, lotteries have been around since before the Great Wall of China was built. Ancient lotteries were, as far as historians can tell, similar to the modern game of keno. Unlike keno, however, they were used as lottery games were used today - to raise money in order to improve society, fund programs, build buildings, etc. It is even said by many that the Great Wall itself was built from proceeds provided by ancient lotteries.

2. There is no National Lottery in the US

Lotteries in the United States are run by each respective state. There is no national lottery. This is mostly because each state has its own gaming laws, and creating one lottery which complies with all of these various laws would be impossible. This is also why there are 8 states which do not have lotteries. While it is nearly impossible to unite all state lotteries, there are many lotteries whose gambling laws are the same or close to the same who are uniting to organize multi-state lotteries. These multi-state lotteries, like Powerball and Mega Millions, allow residents to win much bigger prizes than individual state lotteries can offer.

3. You Can't Influence the Lottery

Despite all of the strategies and systems which claim to help you win the lottery more often, there is no way to influence the lottery itself. Lotteries do, in fact, rely on the laws of chance. Strategies and systems can certainly help you to play the lottery more intelligently, and can definitely make playing the lottery more fun, but they cannot ensure winning. The only way to guarantee that you will win the jackpot, or even to guarantee that you will win at all. Is to buy a ticket for every possible combination of numbers.

4. Euromillions Involves the Most Countries

Euromillions, which was launched in February of 2004, is a multi-country lottery game. It is comparable to the multi-state lottery games like Powerball and Mega Millions. Just like these huge multi-state games, Euromillions has higher payouts than regular lottery games that rise rapidly. Euromillions also has a roll-over jackpot each time the jackpot is not won. There are 9 countries that participate in this one of a kind multi-country game: Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Because there are so many countries involved and so many players, the jackpots often reach up to 50 million pounds.

5. New Hampshire was the Nation's First Lottery

You might think that the Nation's first lottery began in the casino state of Nevada, or the always ahead of their time California - but you'd be wrong. The first lottery in the United states was in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire lottery began in 1964. On March 10, 1964, it was approved by 198 of the 211 voters, becoming the first modern US lottery. Since its inception in 1964, more than $930 millions has gone to aid education.

Buying Lottery Tickets

If you want to buy these or any other lottery tickets, simply log onto your official state website. These sites explain how to purchase tickets, and often times tickets can be purchased online so you can play most state lotteries from the comfort of your own home. You can also refer to official state websites for custom lottery news. Many sites offer lottery number generators to help make your lottery number picking easier for you. If you would like to purchase your tickets in person, you can also visit a local lottery terminal. No matter how you choose to purchase your tickets, or which tickets you choose to buy, you're bound to have some fun!

Another debate that has raged over the decades is what the dance was used for. Some scholars say that belly dancing or 'raqs sharqi' was used during childbirth. Others believe that is was practiced by Temple Priestesses in religious ceremonies. In several countries and cultures, belly dancing is a time-honored tradition. In the Middle East, most of the belly dancers are over forty years of age. The dance is used to celebrate the maturity and sensually of a woman.

It is believed that if she is not forty or over, she has not lived long enough to experience life. She may not be able to feel the music and will just go through the steps with little or no emotion. It has been shown that the movements used in belly dancing have been employed in the child birthing process. One thing is for certain, the 'raqs shariqi' or belly dance has been used through out history and in current times, as a form of entertainment.

There are two main types of belly dancing - tribal dances and Cabaret. While Cabaret dancers will be found in nightclub type establishments or even on the stages of Broadway and will be wearing flashy jewelry and lots of glitz, tribal dancers are more traditional. They will wear more ethnically accurate costumes and will use the same moves as found in the Middle Eastern, Oriental and Lebanese cultures.

The large amount of emotion and sensuality is one of the main reasons that belly dancing is so special. Although it is sometimes believed that the belly is the only part of the body that is working; it is actually the whole body that is needed to dance this way. And because it firms the thighs, hips and belly all at the same time, it is a wonderful form of exercise.

The thought of a male belly dancer still holds its shock value, whether in western cultures or elsewhere. The stereotype is that it is for homosexuals or the more effeminate males. However, it has become more popular among men who are confident and secure within themselves.

The key is not to try to do female movement with a male body. Because a man's and woman's bodies are built differently, the moves have to be modified. The key to being a male belly dancer is to not forget you are a man. When traditionally female moves are rendered with masculinity, the result can be just a breathtaking.

At one time, only virgin and possibly homosexual teenage boys were trained to belly dance for rulers in the Ottoman Empire, but no more. With Tarik, Jal Kimo and Zorba performing this art in the form of exercise and entertainment, it is becoming clearer that very masculine, muscle-bound men can belly dance and do it with a masculine flair. Men can be found belly dancing in gyms and in nightclub type establishments to crowds of adoring women.

Thomas Edison made a video in 1898 that featured the Turkish belly dancers Ella Lola and Crissie Sheridan. Through the years, there have been several belly dancers that have made it to the 'famous' category. Aisha Ali is very recognized as both a performer and a teacher. She has been practicing the ancient art form for more than thirty years and passing the gift to others through her teachings for a little over two decades. Neena and Veena, identical twin dancers, have been seen at Hollywood parties and teaching classes as well.

Summary:

Even though, in recent times, belly dancing has been recognized as a wonderful form of exercise, it is a time-honored tradition throughout many countries and cultures all over the world. This is because of the emotion and sensually that is ribboned through the dance. It can also be used to ease the child birthing process.
