[I495]Invitation To Public Speaking
by Stephen Pope, Ste

1. Free Speeches to Promote Your Business

A lawyer might make a speech to a group of business persons, free of charge, about the advantages of incorporating their businesses. This could result in obtaining new clients. It could also cause existing clients to purchase additional services, such as incorporations, minute book work, income tax election filings, and so on.

2. Paid Seminars, Workshops and Teleclasses

You could charge admission fees to attend a seminar entitled "How To Incorporate Yourself Without a Lawyer". This seminar could detail the considerations and mechanics of incorporating your own private corporation.

3. Sell Information Products

The information presented during a speech or seminar could form the basis for information products such as books, courses, special reports or folios, audios, videos, DVDs, electronic books, and so forth. For example, you could write a book entitled "How To Incorporate Yourself Without a Lawyer".

Including such products as handouts at your seminar would increase the value for the attendees (which you could charge for). Even if you gave a free speech to a group, you could still receive back-end income from the sale of such information products.

Obviously, your public speaking skills will be especially important when producing an audio or video cassette. Your listeners and viewers will make certain judgments based on your personal appearance, poise, audience contact, use of gestures, enthusiasm, how informative the material is, and many other factors.

Your information products establish your credibility as an expert, resulting in even more business. As well, you can market those same information products through mail order, direct mail, Internet marketing, and other methods.

4. Consulting and Other Opportunities

As your reputation as an expert in your specialized field grows, you will become more in demand. Clients may seek you out for lucrative speaking engagements. You may be invited to write magazine articles, consult for large corporations, act as an expert trial witness, become a syndicated columnist, et cetera.

Therefore, whether you are a novice or an experienced public speaker, it pays to increase and utilize your public speaking skills.

I like public speaking for lots of reasons, but perhaps the single most reason why I love my motivational speaking career is that I will always benefit from multiple streams of income. At any one speaking engagement, I'll have pre-sold material ready to be delivered, I'll charge a speaking fee that justifies my time and I'll also have materials on hand for back of the room sales. In my motivational speaking career, I've had to learn how to become a master marketer as I learned how to make money with motivational speaking. Now here's what I want you to do. I don't want you to think like a speaker any more. I want you to start thinking like a marketer!

Being a motivational speaking marketer means you need to start looking at your speaking engagements differently. You need to see these speaking engagements as occasions for you to open your store. You can sell other things besides yourself and your time. You can write a book or get the book written for you about a subject matter that will sell in your area of expertise. How easy would it be if you just recorded audio or video files during speaking engagements you had and then packaged them up for sale? Before you can focus on the three simple ways to expand your public speaking income you have to get all your products prepared.

Your speaking fee is the first area to be looked at when expanding your public speaking income. One of the first guidelines I give you for your public speaking career is to not be nervous about asking for the money you deserve. When people aren't making any money doing public speaking they often ask me how they can get booked instead of the more direct question of how to make the money. There is a simple answer behind why most people don't make any money doing motivational speaking, and that is they are working for a low fee or no fee at all. The mental hurdle that must be beaten down is that you shouldn't ask for $10,000 as opposed to $5,000. Only this stops you from reaching your full professional speaking potential!

A second area to look at to expand your income lies within pre-selling your products. Books, CDs, DVDs, and training systems are all ways to market your knowledge. Speak to the meeting planner about getting copies of your books for every person in attendance without it costing the planner a penny. Simply add an extra $10 to the registration charge and have the meeting planner send it to you after the conference has ended. I was able to pre-sell my book to every single person attending - making an additional $10 per person plus my regular speaking fee.

Back of the room sales is the third step to expanding your income. It is necessary that you think like a motivational marketer not a motivational speaker. Boost your sales by making your audience crave more information than what you're sharing with them. You can do this by giving them nuggets from your book and or CD/DVD sets. Your sales will be super charged by making irresistible offers like: promoting your training system as "power packs" or discount pricing for today only.

Watch your motivational speaking career take off just by starting work on these extra avenues of income!
