Do you believe in global warming? Many people around the world are concerned about the effects of global warming.

There are two main areas of information around global warming. First is the negative affect that global warming is having on our planet, such as coastal flooding, erratic weather, and the concern around the viability of our planet. Second is the discussion around prevention of global warming.

As the issue of global warming becomes more publicized, many people wonder what they can do. Although we may not see how our efforts can create change, it is important to remember that your future family members benefit from your small actions today. That is why you should do your part to join in the fight against global warming. Here are some ideas:

==>Car

One of the first things that you will want to look at is your car. Are you considering buying a new car? If so, why not examine hybrids or other energy efficient vehicles. Many are affordable, can help save the environment, and even save money in the end. Energy efficient vehicles enable you to save money on gasoline, which is great given the current prices of gasoline.

Another way to help with global warming is to decrease the use of your car. Is it possible for you to use public transportation or to carpool to work? As for your weekly errands, can you carpool with a friend or family member and turn your weekly errands into a fun filled adventure? Fewer vehicles on the road makes it easier to combat global warming.

==>Home

Small acts by you and your family can help save energy.

--Turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use. You can have fun with this change by posting cute sticky notes as reminders near light switches until everyone in your household gets in the habit of shutting off lights.

--If you are about ready to purchase new household appliances, make sure they are energy efficient models. These appliances use less electricity which can help in the fight against global warming. In addition, you can benefit by saving money on your electricity costs.

--Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.

--Check your water heater. Many experts suggest having your water heater set at 120 degrees or lower. Also, a hot water heater blanket can help you with your heating costs.

--Weatherize your home or apartment. Use weather-stripping to seal drafts around windows and doors and any outlets that let in air.

--Does your home have adequate insulation? Many older homes don't have enough, especially in the attic. You can check the insulation yourself or have it done as part of an energy audit, provided by many utility companies. Call your company to see if it offers this service.

==>Other Ways

--Purchase recycled products, especially paper products.

--Start a compost bin or pile to create your own natural fertilizer for your trees and garden.

--Plant a tree or contribute to a local park's effort to create more trees in public places.

--Buy green products as gifts for others - great for housewarming gifts.

--Share your energy saving and recycling ideas with family and friends. Start a 'healthy environment' club and educate yourself and others on the benefits of going green.

We are starting to see physical changes around the world resulting from global warming, such as melting glaciers and droughts. These changes are small compared to what is being predicted. Unfortunately, many individuals believe that "it isn't a problem if we can't see it." Since we are seeing the impact of global warming in the world, imagine what it will be for our children and their children.

If you would like to help join in the fight against global warming, you will want to get started soon. Every choice we all make today impacts the health of the world tomorrow.
