Jean Paul Gaultier is a controversial fashion designer and the creator of the Jean Paul Gaultier perfume line. He was born on the 24th of April, 2004, in France. Though not formally trained in fashion designing, he kept sending his works to the popular fashion designers. In 1970, famous couture stylist, Pierre Cardin liked his work and hired him as an assistant.

The first individual collection by Jean Paul Gaultier was released in 1976. In 1981, his true characteristic irreverent approach towards fashion design was noticed by many in France and since then he has been referred to as the "bad boy" of French fashion. He is particularly famous for creating the costumes for pop diva Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour 1990. In 1993, the first Jean Paul Gaultier perfume was launched.

Initially known as Jean Paul Gaultier, the perfume for women was later renamed to "Classique", in order to make it easily distinguishable from the other scents. It was made by Jacques Cavallier and has an oriental floral fragrance that includes the notes of orange blossom, bergamot, mandarin, rose, iris, aniseed, orchid, ginger, ylang-ylang, amber, musk and vanilla. Riding on the recent success achieved by Gaultier for the cone-shaped bra he designed for Madonna, the perfume attracted lots of attention when launched. It comes in a bottle which is shaped like the upper torso of a woman in a corset, imitating the characteristic that is associated with Gaultier's fashion label and true to Gaultier's irreverent style the bottles were packed in cans made of tin instead of cardboard boxes. Re-dressed limited editions of this perfume are released each year.

In 1995, a new Jean Paul Gaultier perfume for men called Le M'le was introduced to the world. The fragrance became very successful instantaneously and could be smelled in almost all the places such as restaurants, bars, clubs, taxis, buses, trains, airplanes, supermarkets, cinema halls and every other place on the earth. It is still very popular throughout the world. This Jean Paul Gaultier perfume was developed by Francis Kurkdjian and has a powerful fragrance that includes notes of Artemisia, mint cardamom, bergamot, orange blossom, lavender, sandalwood, cumin, vanilla, cinnamon, amber, cedar and Tonka bean.

Gaultier 2, the first unisex fragrance in the Jean Paul Gaultier perfume line was launched in 2005. This perfume was also developed by Francis Kurkdjian and has a fragrance that contains notes of musk, vanilla and ambergris. The magnetized bottles are available in three sizes.

Another Jean Paul Gaultier perfume called Ma Dame for women was launched in 2008. This was also made by Francis Kurkdjian. It has a floral peppery fragrance with notes of musk, grenadine, acidic orange, rose and cedar. Ma Dame is presented in three sizes- 30, 50 and 100ml.

The new Jean Paul Gaultier perfume for men called Fleur du M'le is not as powerful and spicy as Le M'le. It has fragrance with notes of coumarin, fern accord petitgrain leaf and orange flower. The men's perfumes come in bottles that are shaped like a man's torso. While the Fleur du M'le is available in a white bottle, the Le M'le comes in a turquoise striped tank top.
