[L480]Location Of Water Pump
by Rachel Yoshida, Rac
Not many people think of the bathroom as the center of the household, but it is right on up there with the kitchen as being one of the most important rooms there is. You can imagine why, so I don't have to spell it out for you, but if you are thinking about remodeling this part of your home, you need to do a little research to make sure that the room is going to be completely water tight when it is finished.

The default nature of the bathroom is wet and if not ventilated properly, the bathroom can become a breeding ground for all kinds of mold growth. This is not something you want lurking around inside your home for very long, since it can make you sick and end up causing structural damage to the property itself. Once mold becomes embedded into a piece of drywall, the whole sheet must be replaced, since it can never be completely killed after infesting the depth of the board. If there is mold on both sides of a piece of drywall, it needs to be replaced.

Everything in your bathroom needs to be sealed tight with caulking, especially around the edge of the toilet and bathtub. This will help prevent water from seeping down into the sub-floor and rotting it. If possible, you can also install a waterproofing membrane underneath the flooring that you choose to help your floor be even more waterproof.

The only kind of flooring that you choose for your bathroom should be stone, tile, or vinyl. These are the only acceptable floorings for a bathroom or a kitchen, since these surfaces are not porous. Hardwood flooring and carpet should be avoided at all costs, since hardwood can buckle when it gets wet and carpet can become a breeding ground for mold.

Check the plumbing underneath the sink and make sure it is not leaking. Leaks in this area are common, but need to be taken care of just as much as any other leak does. Any leak in the house can cause water damage and mold growth, especially in the bathroom, so do not hesitate to get it taken care of immediately.

You may also want to look at the plumbing installed inside your bathroom walls and take this opportunity to install new plumbing if you need to. You should also check for leaks.
