[L476]Local Events And Festivals
by Christine Harrell, Chr
Customers are the life-blood of any business, and no matter how great the product or service you offer, you can't succeed unless customers know you exist. The most successful marketing requires more than just putting up a sign and taking out a classified ad in the paper. You must find new and creative ways to let people know about your business.

Events like festivals and fairs are a great source of foot traffic. Even a few sales will cover the expense of renting a booth and everything after that is pure profit. You can even take your laser engraver right along with you create beautifully customized goods on the spot. These types of items are big sellers at fairs, carnivals, and open air markets!

Your Booth Is Your Advertising

Decorate the booth with the best examples of your work. Use the highest quality materials and your most detailed engravings. You want to grab the attention of passersby tailor your display items to theme of the event.

Don't use the same decorations for every event. Customize your booth depending on the kinds of customers you will see. Wall plaques with clever sayings are popular and sell well. Produce some that fit the event such as "Addicted To Chocolate" at a candy festival or "I'd Rather Be Fishing" at a sporting goods show.

Are there going to be a lot of families in the crowd? Set up a digital camera and push photographic engravings. Those are some of the most breathtaking and profitable creations that laser engravers can produce and people just love to get engravings of their kids.

From dog tags at a pet show to personalized beer steins at Oktoberfest, make your products fit the crowd.

Don't Just Sit There!

You see two booths. At one, the person is standing out front greeting the crowd, smiling and joking around. At the other, a vague shape sits on a stool in the shadows of a back corner. Which is likely to make more sales? If you'll be hiring assistants to help you run your booth, make sure the person you choose has a friendly demeanor, lots of energy, and is great at socializing.

You don't have to be a carnival barker, but even calling out an occasional "Hello" gets people to turn their head and notice your booth. The more interaction, the better your sales are likely to be. Try to target people by showing them specific items they might like and personalizing your message to each person who walks by.

The Loss Leader

Offer a great deal on something just to get traffic in your booth. Once there, they might see something more expensive they want. A personalized rosewood pen might cost you $2 in supplies, so sell it for that. That $2 pen might just sell a $75 marble plaque.

There literally thousands of creative products that can be made with laser engravers. As a successful business owner, you should always be looking for unique niches to fill, something people want but that not a lot of people are offering. Once you begin to realize all of the different materials that can be used with a laser engraver, and begin noticing just how many products could be enhanced with customization, you may very well hit upon an idea that launches your laser engraving business to a national or global level!
