[L497]Long Distance Phone Co
by Michael Francis, Mic

Though most of the people have a very general and pre-conceived notion about a couple i.e. they stay together or meet often, go out for dates and basically are there for each other at all times. But, one stark contrast to this concept of love is long distance love. Long distance relationships are considered to be relationships that never work out or materialize. However, this needs not be true in all of the cases. There are innumerable couples who are engaged in long distance relationships and still have the element of romance going strong between them.

It is a fact that no individual would like to get into a relationship where they cannot be with the person they love. Then how does long distance love come into existence? This is a question, which may baffle a person who loves to get into relationships just for the heck of it and to enjoy the thrill and pleasure of being in a relationship, no matter whether it lasts for long or not.

But, there may be certain set of people who believe in the concept of a sustainable and meaningful relationship, which can stand the test of time. These are the people who generally come under the category of committed relationships. In an unfavorable situations, where either of the partners have to move out of the city, state or even country, these people automatically fall under the tag of so-called “long distance relationships”.

The couples who are engaged in long distance love are merely left at the mercy of technology i.e. web, phone and emails in order to stay in touch with each other or to make a tough choice, deciding to continue the relationship though. They may not be able to spend time with each other or even see each other for a long period of time.

One of the most important pre-requisites for a successful long distance love is the element of understanding, sacrifice and adjustment between the two partners. Though, they may not be able to meet each other regularly but can continue to stay in touch with each other and stay connected over the phone.

It is important for both the partners to stay constantly connected to each other over the phone by talking to each other everyday. Though they need not indulge in lengthy conversations, which may give you a run for your money over the phone bill, but a short call in order to remain in constant touch with each other is not such a bad idea.

For most of the couples, online services, such as instant messaging and emails also play an important role. Though there are several modes available for better communication between the two partners, talking over the phone remains the unbeatable and best option for communicating as it can allow listening to each other's voice and feeling connected unlike other web service where they can communicate through text messages send over the net.

The IRS Owes You Money If You Have Paid Long Distance Phone Taxes

Every one of us pays for some form of long distance telephone service. The more you use the service, the more you start hunting for better rates. Whatever choice you make, however, you are always stuck paying a federal tax on the bill. For those of you with large long distance phone bills, this tax can add up quickly given the fact it is calculated at three percent of your total bill.

The tax in question is known as the federal excise tax on long distance telephone service. It was created in 1898. Yes, this tax arose well over one hundred years ago. As you might image, a few people started to wonder how a tax established in 1898 could possibly apply today, particularly given the advancement of telephone technologies. Turns out it doesn't apply! Given a chance to review the situation, five appellate courts have ruled the tax invalid.

After contemplating the situation, the IRS has decided not to challenge the legal rulings. Instead, it has voluntarily agreed to issue credits or refunds for the excise taxes paid the past three years. Specifically, you will be able to claim a refund of all taxes paid from February 28, 2003 till the date the IRS stopped collecting them.

To collect the refunds, the IRS will create a new box on all 1040 filing forms for the 2006 tax year. In practical terms, this means you will be able to check a box and get a refund when you prepare your 2006 tax return in 2007. The IRS will pay interest on these funds.

It should be noted the refund is applicable only to the long distance excise tax. You still must pay local service taxes and the refund does not apply to taxes collected by states and such. Still, any refund is a good refund in my opinion.
