[L410]Little Change Goes A Long Way
by Robert D. Thomson, Rob
Online classified adverts are the market of the future, but the current options for the online shopper either lack advertising impact or are expensive. Advertise with your local free ads and you get an advert lacking impact. Use EBay, and the seller will lose a percentage of their sale and the buyer can't see before they buy.

2008 will see the launch of PoundAd, a website set to challenge the way that people advertise. With PoundAd, the consumer gets a high quality, efficient website, with the potential to make money at a minimal cost.

The idea is as simple as the name suggests ? with each advert costing just one pound. And you are not paying a pound for a simple one liner either. Instead, the advertiser gets a full page advert, including photos, a detailed description and, crucially, item specific fields to allow people to easily pick out your ad. Combined with the ability to search by postcode, this enables PoundAd users to swiftly find what they are looking for, contact the seller directly and arrange to view before they buy. Furthermore the site is easy to use and clean with no annoying pop ups or adverts to divert your attention.

Local Businesses can also benefit from PoundAd through the testimonials section, allowing people to rate anything from their local plumber to fast food restaurant, and read independent reviews. What better way to promote your business than to use recommendations of your own customers?

PoundAd takes a traditional way of selling and uses modern technology to bring private retail into the 21st Century. Managing Director Peter Bisset stated, ?I see PoundAd as the next logical step in marrying the power of the internet with a more traditional way of selling, for the E-Bay generation.?

The first 500,000 adverts on PoundAd are free after which a ?1 fee will be introduced.

You may find it difficult to imagine the personal cost of hunger to a child, let alone a family who cannot afford to feed their child(ren), however according to the Department of Agriculture, there are an estimated 12 ? million children who live in households where having (or getting enough) food is an uncertainty.

Ending hunger in our nation would be less expensive than the cautious figure of $90m if the Government would strengthen existing Federal nutrition programs.

Millions of Americans suffered from severe malnutrition, bordering on starvation, little more than 30 years ago. Thankfully, this tragedy was reduced, though, the reality of the situation, in 2007, is that there are more than 35 million people who are forced to choose on a daily basis between paying their rent; mortgage or car note; health insurance, or simply buying food!

Growing children require increased nutritional needs. A child's appetite can exert pressure on a household budget that is already stressed, and over-extended. Inadequate nutrition leads to an impaired education, along with mental and physical illnesses.

The concern for children going hungry has led to a number of food bank programs quietly sweeping across the U.S. Operated predominantly through schools, needy children, and their families, do not need to go without food over the weekends. Every Friday, the children are given a backpack filled with approximately six, healthy meals. On Monday, the backpacks are returned to school, and refilled.

Hunger and food insecurity SHOULD NOT be a problem in this time of plenty. If not for the funding from private companies, individuals, churches, and civic groups, that help to provide food packs for these children, and their families, no doubt there would be larger numbers suffering from this preventable fate.

There but for the grace of God, go I?????????????
