Liver is one of the most important organs of body and performs some vital functions for it. If we want to keep our body healthy we must take care to keep this important organ in good condition. It is known as the factory of the body where most of the metabolic processes of the body are occurring all the time. It is also a store house of the body that processes and stores many nutrients of the body including sugar, fatty acids, amino acids. Some minerals and vitamins are also stored in the liver. Some of these stores may last even for a year or so. An important example is that of vitamin B12 and iron.

Liver has an important role in regulating glucose metabolism. As the blood from the gut first passes from the liver it takes away extra sugars from the blood and stores in the form of glycogen. This has two fold benefits; blood sugar level does not rise enormously immediately after food intake. Also it does not fall to dangerous levels during fasting. This way it saves blood glucose from being washed away in the urine as it never lets the blood sugar levels to cross the thresh hold of the kidneys. Also the brain is saved from damage that might occur if blood sugar levels were allowed to fall beyond the dangerous levels for brain.
A healthy liver means a healthy body. The blood from the gut first passes through the liver. It is thus exposed to many germs, parasites, toxins, drugs, liquor and other harmful substances consumed. State of nutrition, overwork and disease anywhere in the body also influences liver functions.

Importance of Liver Detox:

Health of liver; the 'chief of staff' of the body is vital to maintain the health of other 'staff members', other members of the body. Since liver is the first one to encounter any toxic insult that body is subjected to and has the duty to detoxify the body itself, one cannot undermine the importance and need of maintaining a healthy liver by cleaning it regularly of toxic wastes accumulating in it.

As you may rightly guess liver is the body detox and to detoxify it is most important than the detoxification of any other body system.
