[L444]Living With Type 2 Diabetes
by Godrob, God
As we age our bodies start to slow down and unless we follow a regular exercise program and watch what we eat it's not long before those extra pounds start creeping on. Now when you're younger that's not really of too much concern as your body weight fluctuates within a few pounds of your normal weight. However, once middle age sets in you need to be more proactive in fighting the flab as it's much more difficult to shift.

Seriously though, if you're middle aged or fast approaching seniority and you're overweight you need to start looking at the types of foods you consume and the lifestyle you lead. If you fall into this category you dramatically increase your changes of developing Type 2 Diabetes, unless you make fundamental changes to the way you live your life.

The good news though that following a balanced diet and participating in a regular exercise program Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented and treated. However, if left the condition can lead to other serious illnesses, namely, heart disease, possible nerve damage, kidney problems and even blindness.

The common signs you need to watch out for are:

An increased level of thirst

The constant need to

urinate, especially at night

Feeling unusually sleepy

Weight Loss

If you think you show signs of the above symptoms you need to visit your GP immediately to seek medical advice. It's likely that your blood sugar levels will be monitored and urine checked for signs of the condition.

If you are confirmed as having type 2 diabetes, don't panic, it's not the end of the world, although it will feel pretty daunting at the time. Depending on the severity of your condition you will need to lose weight and follow a tight diet. Now this doesn't mean you can't eat the foods you love anymore, it just means you need to be more prudent with what you consume from now on.

You may also want to take up a new hobby or activity, one that will get your blood flowing and heart pumping. This of course combined with a healthy diet will help control your type 2 Diabetes. Consider regular swimming, cycling or even going for brisk walks as an excellent exercise program. The important thing here is to choice an activity that not only encourages you to lose weight but also one that you will enjoy.
