If you are using the default configurations, it is almost certain that the browser has not been made to use any anonymous server. If you want to utilize one, you need to change it yourself. While the procedure differs with each browser, the process is not difficult. If you have downloaded a software it may change the setting for you, but if not, altering it manually is easy enough.
To change the proxy port settings in Internet Explorer 7.0 you need to go to the Tools menu and click options. Click “connections" and choose the appropriate type (i.e., if you are on a local area network (LAN) select that option) and in the settings, disable the auto detect proxy and the one that utilizes a configuration script. Go to the “server" spot and place the check mark next to the “use server for this connection" message. Now you can go to the advanced settings and enter the appropriate IP information and configuration.
Those using earlier versions of Internet Explorer (6 and 5) will be able to change the settings in much the same way.
If you are using Firefox 5.0 this is how you change the proxy port settings. After starting the program go to the Tools menu and click option. Head over to the “advanced" tab and click “networks". Now, in the manual configuration box, put in the correct information, including the anonymous server address and the port. In Opera 9.0 you need to click the preferences tab. On the advanced options choose “network", and in the “servers" option enter the necessary data. The procedure is virtually identical in Opera 8.0.
For users of Netscape 8.0 the process is almost the same; go to the Tools menu, select options, then the “advanced" button. You will see the network tab. Click it, and in the settings choose “manual configuration". Put in the server address and its port, and click OK.
Once you have set the proxy port settings correctly, going around the Web in a discreet manner will be possible and you no longer have to cope with the problem of trying to figure out why this or that server is not working the way you thought it would.
