The word car is also used as a replacement for the word automobile, which is actually the correct word. This word is a combination of the Greek word auto and the Latin word mobile. The automobile was also named a motor car due to the fact that it carried its own motor and thus people have shortened the word and only started to refer to this vehicle as a car.

The inventor of the first car or automobile can not be named for sure because there are some candidates on this list.
