The year 1942 marked the head office's forty second anniversary of loyally following a policy for understanding of local problems. Despite the great distances within the territory, the field personnel were small enough for the maintenance of personal contact with the executives. The direction had always been in capable hands. When in 1910 Mr. Taylor was recalled to other duties at the home office in New York, he was succeeded by assistant secretary George B. Scott.

In July 1923 the people of Burke, Idaho, welcomed the Metropolitan nurses following a fire which practically wiped out the town, leaving the residents without food or adequate clothing.
