[F356]Fishing Lakes & Ponds
by Charley Holman, Cha
With thousands of fishing lakes across the world, selecting the one you want to pass the time at when organizing a fishing trip can be disconcerting. Due to the big selection in variety, it is advised that you select fishing lakes that have the kind of fish that you want. This could seem obvious, but there are many fishers who decide which lake to fish at based off of location and not based off the stock that lives within the fishing lakes. Once you have determined what type of fish you would like to fish for, you'll need to test the locations of the fishing lakes. Many of the finest fishing lakes are in remote locations thanks to the fact that pollutants are not as quick to enter these lakes than they are at lakes found near major populations. As many of the good sporting fish require cleaner water, you may regularly have to head to remote locations to get the best. If you are willing to compromise on the quantity or type of fish, you can find fishing lakes that are closer to towns and major towns. In addition to general location and sort of fish in the fishing lakes, you will want to consider the landscape round the lakes. In the case of remote fishing lakes, there are some perils related to fishing. These can include snake bites, bear attacks and wolves in the region. If you are planning on going to unusual remote fishing lakes, you wish to ensure you are taking the necessary cares to protect yourself and anyone that is fishing with you. If you want to go on a fishing adventure into the wilds, it is suggested that you go with a good tour guide, as they'll know the way to use the best fishing lakes, know the fishing holes, and know how to avoid any hazards that may be in the region. When fishing, particularly in remote areas, you might need to make absolutely sure somebody in your group has a GPS. This is particularly heavy for those who do not own cell telephones. As many GPS units now include emergency features built in, help will be able to find and get to you if something were to occur. When arranging a fishing trip to well-liked fishing lakes, you might need to make certain that your fishing license is in order, as rangers and local officials in the region are known to do check points and watch for those without a license. While this is less common in remote locations, the penalties and charges can get quite high if you are caught without the proper documentation.

Bass fishing is probably the most popular form of sport fishing in the United States. While bass can be caught in rivers, streams, lakes, and sometimes even in salt water bodies, lakes are probably the most common areas fished for large bass. If you're a newcomer to the sport and want to get in on the fun, here are some of the best bass fishing lakes in the United States where you can guarantee a good catch on the first run.

Texas is full of great bass fishing lakes to visit, but many of the latest reports point anglers toward Lake Ray Roberts, in the North Texas Dallas/Fort Worth area. Water temperatures in the early part of March range between 58 and 68 degrees, and there is a wide variety of water to fish, ranging from quite murky to crystal clear. The lake is quite shallow, meaning it stays warm through most of the year and is a great breeding ground for bass. Levels good for bass fishing range from about 6-10 feet, and you can easily catch 5-8 pound specimens with smoky, purple, blue and black jigs. Also try light colored spinner and chatter baits in warmer waters (less than 4 feet deep) for excellent results. Lake Tawakonee is also popular for black and white bass. Beware of the excited angler, however. Some of the fishermen around this lake tend to become territorial and are not thrilled to the prospect of newcomers! Find a cove of your own, and you can fish all you want - the lake is full of bass, and you won't be disappointed, regardless of your position.

If you just move a few hundred miles north to Missouri and you will also find bass fishing lakes with great opportunity. Table Rock Lake is quite popular for bass fishing. Try the waters from mid to late May for temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees, which bring lots of activity from these fish. Around the Kimberling City area of the lake, you should target the shady side of the docks with a jig/craw combo. In and around the dam, you'll also find success with shaky head worms around the points, where smallmouth bass tend to congregate. Also take a whack at Stockton Lake, especially around secondary points. Carolina rigs tend to be effective here, while jig and craw can attract quite a catch above the bridges.
