There are numerous different reasons that people get involved in martial arts. One of the reason is for the fitness aspect of Martial arts. Enhanced endurance, strength, coordination and flexibility are a few things that Martial arts helps to develop. Martial arts also helps decrease stress levels. Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Capoira are a only some types of martial arts that provide you great overall fitness benefits.
one more reason that several people are fascinated in Martial Arts is for self defense. Women's self defense or law enforcement has specialized particular classes that deal rigorously with martial arts as self defense. A lot of martial arts schools also present self defense as an element of their programs.
When search for a martial arts school, you want to figure out what kind of method of martial arts you would like to focus on. Some of the styles are stand up, weapons based, low impact and combating. The stand up style concentrates on kicking, punching and blocking. During one of these classes you would study foot work and stance positions. A weapons based course would focus more on the exercise of particular types of weapons. Low contact martial arts can also be called Meditative. This technique deals more with breathing techniques, force, stress relief and work outs.
A several tips to finding a martial arts school that is just right for you would be to first discover one that teaches the kind of martial arts you are attracted in. You can look in the phone book or inquire friends. Then you want to set out to check out a class. Watching a class will give you enormous insight into the mood and what is anticipated.
The next thing you want to do is contact the schools that you are fascinated in and schedule a complimentary or reduced rate session. Most schools will be more than happy to do this for you.
After you get your first class from several schools, you should know which one that you are fascinated with. Before you signing up for any class, make sure and inquire if there are any amount that must be paid, such as association fees or organizational fees. You also should to ask about the dress code. Will you be required to purchase a uniform, particular shoes or gloves. All of this adds to the price of the class.
Teaching martial arts and Zen meditation, people will often ask what one has to do with the other. Without going into ten thousand word essay, let's just say that Zen helps one be mindful of their surroundings and that obviously has benefits to effective self defense. If you are mindful and somewhat calm, you will be able to utilize the martial art training when attacked. If your mind is wandering you won't see the attack coming. Very simple.
A very disturbing trend I see lately is now that everyone has an ipod, everyone is walking around in public with those tiny earphones shoved in their ears listening to music. I see people jogging, biking, walking, driving, etc, all while in their own world, unaware of what's going on around them. Very bad self defense. It's not that I don't like ipods, I own one and use it while I'm on my treadmill at home. I'm really not too concerned about being attacked or hit by a car in my upstairs bedroom. Public display of technology, such as cell phone or PDA use, has always annoyed me but from a rudeness stand point. This is just dangerous.
Being totally oblivious to your surroundings will get you seriously hurt or even killed. Whenever I see someone using an ipod in public, I know this person has never trained in any kind of serious martial art or awareness training. People never think anything will happen to them until it does. There are rapists out there who look for women, jogging alone, totally oblivious to anything around them often because of listening to an ipod. This is who they pounce on. Like a lion on a defenseless antelope.
I see people driving in cars wearing ipods. This is totally insane. A lot of how we react in preventing car accidents is because of what we hear. A horn, someone screeching tires, etc. Playing the radio in the car to loud can also be dangerous but the ipod completely blocks out ambient sounds.
Unplug those ipods before it's too late. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't walk, run, or drive through life just waiting to be a victim.
