After a tiring day whether it is at work or simply shopping when you return home the first thing that you notice is that your feet are killing you. The simplest thing that you can do to relieve this pain is to sit down and take your shoes off. This takes away the immediate pains. A loved one or even you can provide the benefits of a foot massage. The main things that you need will be a comfortable place to keep your foot on, creams, oils, essential oils that are used for massages and your favorite soft mood music or even a meditation CD.

To give yourself a foot massage you will first need to get your feet clean and dry including between the toes. You can if you want to soak them in a foot bath with Epsom salts. This foot bath will de-stress you so that you feel even more relaxed. Next rub your massage oil onto your foot.

Holding your foot that is in your lap gently in one hand to support it, with the other hand begin to massage the top part of your foot. Use your thumbs for this massage. Use slow, firm stroking motions that start at the toes and move upward towards the ankles. Once you come to the ankles following the same path massage your way down to your toes. The pressure of the massage must be lighter than at the ankle. Repeat this foot massage 5 times.

Next gently hold the heel of your foot in a cupping motion. With your other hand hold the top of the foot and gently rotate the foot first clockwise and after anticlockwise. Do this 3 to 4 times to relax, calm and de-stress the foot, ankle joints and your senses. Do this foot massage gently so that you don't hurt yourself.

Now still holding your foot in one hand, with the other hand, massage the sole of your foot with the thumb. Begin at the base of your big toe and slowly move towards the other toes. Use gentle rolling motions to give the ball of your foot a relaxing foot massage.

You can then knead your foot. Here you will use your thumb or the finger tips to give the massage. Knead the sole of the foot in a back and forth motion. With your knuckles ?Knead? the second joints of your foot. Use large pressing and rotating motions but be gentle.

By the time you will have ended your foot massage not only will your feet feel good but you will have calmed down and your day's stresses will have vanished as well. Instant bliss.

When you indulge in a foot massage, you will need to follow the appropriate steps to do the same. It has to be done in the right manner, so that you get the best results. There are some aspects that you will have to look into when you think of having a foot massage. First you will have to have the right things with you to begin the same.

They are a pillow, a towel, cosmetic alcohol, cotton, oil, a stool and a volunteer. Before you begin the foot massage, you will have to ensure that the foot is washed and dried clean. You may do it or you can allow the volunteer to do it as well. Next you have to find a very quiet area, as the massage procedure has to be very soothing. To make the massage more interesting, you may play some light and soft music and also use some candles to enhance the atmosphere. The place where you need to lie down also has to be very comfortable. It has to be a massage table, or a comfortable bed. The feet have to be laid a little over the bed.

The pillow or cushion that you use may be put under the knees, so that it helps rest the lower back. The towel can be placed under the feet, so that any excess oil may flow onto it. The volunteer has to position himself at the feet, and the feet have to be placed near the chest. The volunteer will have to look for any damages in the feet, so that he can continue with the massage without any hindrance. The cotton may now be dipped in the alcohol, and the feet can be thoroughly wiped with the same. This will help clean up any germs and other dirt, which is on the feet. Next, take some oil and make it warm by rubbing the oil with the hands. This can then be spread on the feet from toe to heel, downwards. The feet should then be pulled towards the chest and the heel should be moved away gently.

This gentle twisting can be done three times. Next the foot's sole must be taken into consideration. The knuckles must be placed on the sole, and the feet must be twisted gently accordingly. This will help the entire foot get relieved from any stress it is going through. The toes have pads, and the thumbs must be laid on them and rotated smoothly for good effect. The ankles must be rotated gently, and then the movement must be moved towards the toes. Now that you have moved towards the toes, each one of them should be pulled and massaged so that you feel comfortable. The twists for each foot have to be repeated, and the pressure on that must be light so that you feel comfortable once again. These can be repeated for as long as you wish, as long as they are done in the right manner.
