Dieting in the 21st century has gone far beyond being a trend or fad. For millions of Americans, it's a way of life. Unfortunately, for a large portion of these, it's not yet been as effective as it could be. Many of these people are still searching in vain for that perfect diet, the one that will help them lose weight and keep it off. But with so many diets out there vying for their attention, the search for the right diet can be a daunting task. Maybe this short article will help you narrow the search.

The problem that destroys many people's dieting attempts is the "snack factor." Americans love those between-meal snacks more so than they do the big three meals themselves. So if it were possible to build a diet around this concept, around foods that actually destroy calories rather than increase them, this would be a big breakthrough.

Indeed there are such foods! In fact, there are more than you might even realize. Called "negative calorie foods," these make excellent snacks because the energy exerted as you eat them actually benefits your diet. This makes it a pleasure to lose those unsightly pounds.

In truth, there is no such thing as a truly "negative calorie" food. That is, no food has fewer than zero calories. However, there are foods with so few calories that the process of chewing them and digesting them burns more calories than the foods provide.

Not only will these snacks and meal accompaniments help you lose weight by burning more energy, but they will also help you keep that 'full' feeling in between meals. This then stops you from snacking on things that are likely to hinder your diet such as chocolate and sweets.

Cauliflower - Great to eat with literally anything, and can be cooked in many different ways.

Zucchini: Like califlower, there are many ways to cook zucchini. And it has only about 15 calories in a 100 gram portion! It's hard to beat for a dieter's healthy snack.

Apples: Several things have long recommended apples. First, they taste great, and are incrediblly satisfying. Second, because they are hard to digest, the body uses a lot of energy (in the form of calories) to do so. Third, they only contain about 80-some calories anyway!

Hot Chilli Peppers: Okay, maybe you won't be snacking on this one by itself too much. But peppers make for an outstanding condiment! Skip the mayo on that sandwich or the high-fat dressing on the salad. Instead, replace them with hot chilli peppers. You'll love the taste and your body will love the low-calorie count.
