[F308]First Birthday Party Idea
by Cynthia Marcano, Cyn
Its inevitable that a princess party is in the future of most parents with a little girl. However with so many options, how do you choose which princess? How about Cinderella? Cinderella is by far the most well known Disney Princess. Her beautiful dress and happily ever after moment are the dreams of most little girls. Making those dreams a reality for your little princess is almost fairy dust easy.

Invitations

Idea #1

In honor of a royal proclamation send a scroll invitation. Find scroll paper clipart online and print party information in the blank area of the scroll. At each corner add a different image.

Idea #2

Print the party information onto cardstock. Try to fit 2 invitations onto one piece of cardstock if possible. Leave a half inch of border around each individual invitation for cutting. Cut each invitation out carefully. Save as much of the border around each invitation as possible. Find Cinderella clip art online (preferrably clip art that has no background image). Print the clip art on translucent or vellum paper, again printing 2 Cinderella images on each piece of vellum. Be sure to size the Cinderella clip art to cover the invitation an leaving a half inch border all around. Carefully cut the printed Cinderella images the same size of the already cut invitations. The Cinderella images should lay on top the invitations and measure exactly. Using decal scissors cut a decorative border around both vellum and cardstock. Punch two small holes at the top of the invitation. Lace riboon through both holes from the bottom and tie a bow on the front. Use decorative ribbon or ribbon that matches party supplies. Your finished product should be an invitation of Cinderella on top that can be lifted to reveal the party information.

Decorating Ideas

Cinderella party supplies are readily available at most party stores and online, but a little originality will set your royal affair apart from the rest. Cinderella's signature colors are sky blue or ciel and white. Use these colors for crepe and balloon decor. Recreate the Clock Tower using a long piece of cardboard or posterboard. (Use online images or the movie for reference). Paint a clock face at the top and don't forget to set the time to midnight.

Your princess will need her royal coach, so have a few pumpkins handy for transformation. If your party is during harvest time, visit the pumpkin patch and pick a few pumpkins to display in your party area. Try to get the pumpkins with the vines. Its not likely that your local grocery store won't have pumpkins. If your party isn't during harvest, your local craft store should have faux pumpkins and gourds. Jazz up with some fairy dust (fine glitter) for an extra touch.

Menu Ideas

Twelve O' Clock Pizza - Using a regular round pizza arrange (or have arranged) the toppings to simulate the hands of a clock. Be sure the pepperoni clock is striking twelve.

Pretty Blue Dress Drink - combine any clear soda with any blue colored kool aid drink. If you don't like to give the kids soda, the blue kool aid drink alone works too.

Cheese Tray - Cinderella's little mouse friends may not be invited to this party, but you can honor their heroic efforts with a cheese tray they would love!

Pumpkin Dip - This sweet dip makes an ultra cute centerpiece. Find a simple pumpkin dip recipe online. Serve dip in a hollowed out pumpkin. You can add stickers or paint a design to the outside of the pumpkin to add flare. Allow pumpkin to dry before adding dip. Serve with graham or cinnamon graham crackers.

Party Game Ideas

Thats My Shoe! - Hide several shoes around the party area. Whoever finds the most shoes wins. You can purchase shoes at a local thrift store.

Kiss The Frog - similar to Pin the tail on the donkey, whoever places the lips closes to the frogs mouth gets her prince!

Fairy Godmother Makeover - purchase Cinderella dresses for the girls (if there are boys, purchase knight or prince attire) and get them ready for the ball. Be sure to take before and after photos for each child. You can find princess party dresses sold in bulk online.

Whatever you decide to do, ask the Princess birthday girl what she thinks will be a hit with her and her friends. A princess knows what she wants! The royal ball is sure to be an enchanting and majestic affair.

This is a fun party theme for any age child and is a perfect setting for a gift like the KidKraft dollhouse bookcase or Avalon bookcase. Send out invitations that look like books and encourage guests to give books as their gift. Also asks your guests to dress up as their favorite storybook character.

Provide plenty of comfortable seating for the party and decorate with a variety of storybook decorations, concentrating on your child's favorites. Begin the party by guessing each guest's character and voting on the best costume. Activities may include a craft project, like making a bookmark or designing a book cover, a special story time that may involve a storyteller, and book games, like word puzzles or building towers of books.

Refreshments for your book birthday party could be foods from a favorite book or traditional party foods. A cake shaped like a storybook or decorated with favorite characters will fit the theme perfectly. Give your guests small book totes or decorative bags with an inexpensive book, bookmarks, an interesting pen or pencil, books of candy, stickers, or other inexpensive storybook favors.

Let's Get Cooking Birthday Party

This is an ideal birthday party theme for preschoolers and young elementary age children. A cooking party may be more appropriate for little girls, but can be adapted for boys or a mix of children. Recipe card style invitations are a creative way to announce the details of your party. Remember to tell parents that the children will be cooking and that they may get messy. You will also need to enlist the help of another adult to monitor the oven.

Before the birthday party begins, prepare a few batches of cookie dough, as well as some pizza dough. As guests arrive, get their hands washed and give them a small bowl of cookie dough and a variety of items to mix in to it, like marshmallows, chocolate and peanut butter chips, and nuts (check with parents about food allergies before the party). Then let the child drop the dough onto a small baking sheet and put them in the oven.

Once everyone has arrived, let the guests roll out their pizza dough, spread the sauce, and create a personal pizza with their favorite toppings. While the pizzas are cooking, let everyone help mix cupcake batter and pour into muffin tins. After eating pizza, if the cupcakes are cooled, let each guest frost their cupcake and top with sprinkles, adding a candle to the birthday cupcake.

Games to play at your cooking birthday party could include a shopping race to fill a bag with food items, a ?name the spice? sniffing game, or a relay race to fill a bowl using a teaspoon. Send your birthday party guests home with an inexpensive child's cooking apron, their own set of measuring spoons, a cookie cutter, a recipe card, and the cookies decorated during the party.
