[F394]Flat Irons For Hair
by Jay Brandley, Jay
Flat irons have become an essential staple in hairstyling tools, and to achieve particular popular hairstyles, you will need to use a good flat iron, otherwise known as a hair straightener. Now because flat irons are heated, the heat emitted from them may potentially damage your hair. To ensure minimal damage and maximum protection, measures need to be taken in order to prevent your hair from becoming dry and brittle. Just what are these measures? In this article, we will be discussing two particular steps that, if incorporated into your haircare and hairstyling regime, will greatly increase the health of your hair.

Ionic and Tourmaline Technology in Flat Irons

The ionic products have become a recent health craze. Products (ionizing air filters, water ionizers, and the like) that emit negative ions have hit the store shelves claiming to be the next wave in health and well-being. Whether or not this is true, people are so health-conscious these days that they will be willing to purchase anything that will remotely contribute towards good health.

Well, Ionic technology can also be found in flat irons. Flat irons that are equipped with ionic technology emit negative ions to your hair as you style it. Negative ions not only eat up harmful toxins in your body, but they do good for the health of your hair also. Negative ions help to control frizzies and blow-away hair, and also add shine and softness to your hairdo. Ionic technology does contribute to a great hairdo, and to this statement I will personally attest to.

Tourmaline is an earth mineral that is crushed and incorporated into the heated plates of certain flat irons. Tourmaline, when heated, emits negative ions, which is the reason it is used in flat irons. Using a high quality flat iron can greatly contribute to the health of your hair. Brands such as Farouk Chi, Sedu, and Solia incorporate ionic technology into most models of the flat irons that they manufacture.

Fortify and Moisturize Your Hair

Hair that is styled with heat must be properly moisturized and fortified. Applying moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, and leave-in conditioners and hairstyling products are a good way of providing moisture to your hair. There are hair products that are specially formulated with thermal agents to help protect hair from the heat. In addition, there are also gentle cleansers that are designed for hair that is fine and/or color-treated. Popular brands include Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Ojon, and even Nexxus. I cannot tell you if one is better than the other. Trying different ones to see which one reacts best with the physical makeup of your hair will do you well.

Your Regular Haircare and Haistyling Regime

Incorporating the use of a high quality flat iron or hair straightener along with hair products designer to moisturize and fortify your hair into your regular hair regime should ensure maximum protection for your hair. Having healthy hair contributes to your overall presence of looking and feeling healthy.

These devices are much like a standard "curling iron", with the exception that their mission in life is quite the opposite of their more commonly found brethren. Flat irons consist to two metal or ceramic plates that are attached to a heat proof handle. The construction is akin to a curling iron, which is the same except for the shape of the heating element's body. On a curling iron the heating element is in the form of a tube that is heated and is used to twirl the hair around. The heat from the iron "sets" the hair into the curled shape. A flat iron is much the same, except its heating elements are flat plates that the hair is sandwiched between to tame curly locks into a smooth, flat submission.

There are flat irons available at many price points but like with anything else in life, particularly beauty products, you get what you pay for. When shopping for flat irons, be sure to note the construction of the device itself and try to purchase from well known brand names or from companies who supply their products to salon professionals.

Another thing to look for is the material the heated plates are made out of. Ceramic plates are the best for the elements in flat iron hair straightening devices. Ceramic plates and coils produce a moist heat unlike metal plates and coils. This moist head is humid and is much less damaging that traditional hair irons that can burn and damage hair by drying it out over time. Furthermore, ceramic plates and coils are much better distributors of heat and provide consistent heat throughout the dimensions of the plates, unlike metal plated irons that can have hot and cold spots (another condition that can contribute to damaged hair and inefficient straightening.
