[G361]Golf In Costa Rica
by David Lovendahl, Dav
Costa Rica is fast becoming a major golf attraction and only promises to grow in this direction over the next few years. Today, golf is still a new attraction in this majestic Caribbean country but it promises to keep growing and may one day rival that of major golf/travel destinations found all over the world.

And what does all of this mean for you? Costa Rica's golf courses are some of most beautiful and least crowded courses to be found anywhere. Imagine a place where there is seldom a need for an advanced tee time, a place where exotic scenery and animals are guaranteed to keep you in awe, and where the cost to golf is comparable with what you would pay anywhere else in the region.

By far the best time to golf in Costa Rica is during the dry season, which lasts from December through April. From May to November is considered the rainy season, but since the weather usually consists of clear mornings along with late-afternoon showers you might still be able to golf if you are an early riser.

Top Golf Resorts in Costa Rica

Even though golf is relatively new to Costa Rica, there is a wide variety of courses to choose from. Here are just a few of the most popular greens:

?Los Suenos Marriott Ocean and Golf Resort is sprawled out over 1,100 acres of rain forest located in Jaco on the mid-Pacific coast. In addition to golf, this resort offers many amenities including deep-sea fishing, casino facilities, spa services and tennis courts just to name a few.
?Melia Playa Conchal Beach and Golf Resort is located south of Tamarindo and is surrounded by a tropical dry forest which houses many exotic inhabitants such as macaws, toucans and howler monkeys. The jewel of the property, though, is the Playa Conchal Garra de Leon, an ocean-side course with breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and forest.
?Cariari Country Club is only a short distance from San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, and was the first 18-hole course in the country.

And the other activities to be found in Costa Rica make it more of a family vacation destination than most other golfing-only communities. Here you can trek the volcanoes, surf, scuba dive, raft, fish, and dive among other things. In fact, you could stay for a month in Costa Rica and not see everything that this awe-inspiring land has to offer.
