Although a greatest hits album was the inspiration for Good Charlotte's The Greatest Remixes, released Nov. 25 via Epic Records, the band decided their career was too young for a hits album and stuck with remixes instead. Guitarist Benji Madden told http://Billboard.com, “We just feel like even though we're in the process of making our fifth album and we have had a lot of hits, we're a little too young for a greatest hits (album).” His twin brother and Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden echoed Benji, saying “We're not as accomplished as I guess we feel a band with a greatest hits should be.” So Good Charlotte went with The Greatest Remixes as a way to retrospectively look at their eight-year recording career. The Maddens are a popular production remix team known as Dead Executives and are also active DJs.
The album was helmed by the Madden's older brother Josh, who has played “a bigger part of our band history than people really know.” Fall Out Boy's frontman Patrick Stump, Linkin Park's Joe Hahn, the Academy Is…, the White Tie Affair, Teddy Riley, Marshall Arts and Metro Station were among the remixers, and Josh's good friend Junior Sanchez remised “Los Angeles World Wide.” The Maddens remixed “Keep Your Hands Off My Girl” with Bubba Sparxx and Jung Tru. The standard edition of The Greatest Remixes includes 15 tracks while another five remixes will be available on iTunes. Among the iTunes exclusives are two news songs, “WAR” and “Anxiety,” and Joel told http://Billboard.com that the band “wanted to give our fans a new song. It's actually one of my favorite songs we've ever written. I love the vibe.” Good Charlotte is in the early stages of making their next album in Los Angeles and Joes revealed that it will be “probably the most Good Charlotte record we've ever written.” Try http://www.stubhub.com/good-charlotte-tickets for Good Charlotte tickets to see the band live.
Although Benji and Joel Madden have recently become tabloid fixtures due to their romances with celebutantes Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie, respectively, the Waldorf, MA natives have been performing their brand of pop-punk music since the mid-‘90s. After being inspired by seeing the Beastie Boys, the Maddens recruited high school friends Paul Thomas (bass) and Aaron Escolopio (drums) to form Good Charlotte. With Joel on vocals and Benji on lead guitar, second guitarist Billy Martin rounded out the lineup and the band released an eponymous debut on Epic Records. The album's lead single, “Little Things,” was a hit, and the band set to work recording their sophomore album. Escolopio left Good Charlotte to join Wakefield with his brother and Chris Wilson became the band's permanent drummer. Led by popular singles “Anthem” and “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” Good Charlotte's The Young and the Hopeless went triple-platinum after its 2002 release and scored the band a spot touring with New Found Glory the following year.
In 2004 Good Charlotte released their third album The Chronicles of Life and Death and saw Dean Butterworth stepping in on drums. Good Morning Revival was released in 2007 and spawned the hit single “The River.” While you wait for Good Charlotte's next album of new material, get your Good Charlotte tickets to see them live.
Recent news out Brisbane is that the bassist from the rock group Good Charlotte was taken to the hospital on November third, after falling off of the stage only minutes after the show started. Apparently the rock musician seriously wounded his ankle after jumping around onstage, which could have led to a misstep that provoked the fall. Paul Thomas, however, was apparently not deterred and continued to play throughout the duration of the concert by sitting in a chair with a large ice-pack strapped to the effected ankle. There were reportedly no broken bones, which hopefully means a quick heal for the performer who is still scheduled to continue touring with Good Charlotte. Their single titled “Little Things” ended up being very successful on the radio and it eventually peaked at the number 23 spot on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart. Two other singles immediately followed, those being “The Motivation Proclamation” and “Festival Song.” “The Motivation Proclamation” was the most successful single released from the album, peaking at number 65 on the U.S. Hot 100.
Their 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless significantly marked the band’s emergence into mainstream popularity.
