It's the beginning of a new year with all of the resolutions that are made and the good intentions of keeping them, we seem to have trouble with the follow through. Often our resolutions deal with our physical well being of kicking a bad habit or starting a good habit or turning over a new leaf of some sort.

Maybe this year we need to not only look at our physical resolutions about ourselves but also at our homes that may need some tender loving care after all of the holidays that have just concluded. Many of us have had company, parties, and kids sleeping over, people dropping by to say hello and well wishers, not to mention all of the weather and spills that have possibly left our rugs and furniture in a mess.

And let's not forget our kitchens and our dining rooms with all of the cooking and many meals that have been served over these past few months. Our tables may have suffered damage or chairs possibly broken, dinnerware that was broken or chipped, glassware that didn't survive or a tablecloth that has definitely seen better days. We may look around and wonder what happened? Plus our bathrooms have had lots of use and abuse that may leave us despairing, wondering if we can ever make things right again.

After all of the clean up and putting away the decorations, throwing away all of the broken ornaments and other clutter we may find our selves overwhelmed by the shape of our homes. Realizing we have a problem is the first step in putting our homes back into the shape that we and our homes need to be. Because when we are happy and contented with the home d'cor and our design style we will feel better over all about ourselves.

But by the end of January, how many of these people are still actively using their memberships. Weight loss is truly a commitment. It takes time but most importantly it takes effort to lose the extra pounds. There are things that you will have to go without. It is a fact, that during the holiday season the average person gains 5 to 7 pounds from their holiday meals. How do you successfully lose these extra "holiday" pounds? First of all, you do not want to starve yourself or go on a "crash" diet. Doing so may actually cause more harm than good. The best thing to do is to cut the amount of calories that you eat daily. Nutritional facts are found on your food packages and most restaurants have calorie information if you request it.

Not only do you want to cut your calories but you should also get active. Add exercise to your daily routine. You should exercise at 30 minutes a week. You do not have to do it all at once, it can be broken down into three 10 minute sessions. You must exercise at least 10 minutes straight to have an impact on the body. If done properly, you will see results. You may notice that when you start your scale may show a loss of weight but you still physically look the same. This may be due to the fact that you are losing water weight not actual fat. Yellow fat is obtained from your food and is stored which leads to your weight gain. You can burn this fat better than exercise through a process known as thermogenesis. The thermogenic process helps to naturally increase heat in the body which burns yellow fat as energy preventing it from being stored as excess weight. When added to water, it boosts the metabolism which aids in a more rapid weight loss.
