[G360]Golf Grip Left Handed
by Jeffv, Jef
When you think back on the first time you hit a golf ball, you weren't thinking about utilizing the perfect golf grip. You did not realize that every last part of your body has to function together to produce a great golf swing. A bad swing is what you'll produce if any part breaks down during the golf swing. One thing that will help you accomplish the correct swing is to have the right grip. The proper grip can be the difference between shooting a good score or shooting a bad score. Obtaining the perfect golf grip is not as difficult as you might imagine. Experimenting is one way that numerous people have done it. But, fear not, because their are several standard, essential hand position formulas for you to stick to.

The good thing is that you have some different grips to pick from that will be beneficial to your golf game. The thing you will discover is that nearly all swing tips are geared towards a specific type of golfer. Luckily, any type of player will find that different grips are an alternative for them. And, when you do find the appropriate grip for you, your play will improve enormously. Start out by making sure that you are not holding the club to tightly. This will cause your upper body muscles to become tight, particularly the muscles in your arms and shoulders. The natural thought process behind gripping your club tight is that most people think that the harder you grip the club, the harder the initial contact will be. This is simply not true with the swing. You'll notice that when you're tight, you will not swing as fast or under control. By loosely gripping the golf club, you will create a more rhythmic, controlled golf swing. Your play will improve with this type of golf swing.

Another area concerning your golf grip that must be given priority deals with the correlation between your wrists. It is better to have your wrists working jointly than separately towards the same undertaking. One way to guarantee that your wrists will work together is to use the cross-hand grip. A cross-hand grip is executed by positioning your right hand on the club where you would ordinarily position your left hand. Then, put your left hand on top of the grip. If you are right handed, naturally, do the exact opposite. Now, this is going to feel a little unusual the first time you employ this grip. But, fear not, because this will coerce your wrists to function together as one rather than attempting to work by themselves. This grip can be employed for your regular golf swing and for putting.

Swing tips that relate to the golf grip need to be given particular attention. If your game is not where you think it could be, have a look at your grip. The proper golf grip will benefit your game by improving your accuracy and increasing the speed of your swing, which means more distance on your shots. You don't have to look anyplace other than your hands for a boost in your golf game. The perfect golf grip can perform miracles quickly and improve your play literally overnight.

How you grip the club has a huge affect on the golf shots you hit. But don't let anyone tell you that there is one golf grip that everyone should use, because that is simply not true. You've just got to look at professional golfers to see this. For example, Ben Hogan used a weak grip to help combat a hook problem. Nick Faldo uses a neutral grip. Then John Daly uses a strong golf grip.

Now you've probably heard that the weakness/strength of your golf grip is related to where the V's of your hands are pointing. But I've got a much better way to check your grip and find out what works best for you.

First of all, get a semi permanent felt tip pin and draw circles about 1 cm above your top hand's knuckles. So for a right handed golfer you would do this on your left hand. For a left handed golfer you would do this on your right hand.

Now simply practice taking your grip and see what your grip feels like when you can see 1 knuckle, then 2 knuckles, then 3 knuckles on your top hand. Also do this exercise with your feet together. By doing this you'll always have a reference position that you can easily repeat.

By the way, a 1 knuckle grip is considered a weak golf grip, a 2 knuckle grip is considered a neutral golf grip, and a 3 knuckle grip is considered a strong golf grip.

After you've setup with each grip then hit balls with each of these golf grips. Incidentally when placing your bottom hand on the grip simply let it go along with what the top hand is doing. And do this so that the groove in the middle of your bottom hand fit's snugly into your top hands thumb.

Now I want to offer some advice about the grip that will help you if you struggle in hitting one particular shot, i.e. a slice or hook. If you slice the ball a lot you should tend towards a stronger golf grip, e.g. 3 to 4 knuckles showing on the top hand. And conversely if you hook the ball a lot you should move towards a weaker grip, e.g. 1-2 knuckles showing.

But the bottom line is to experiment.

Once you've got a good golf grip that works well for you always check it regularly to make sure you're doing the same thing. Because over time your golf grip can easily become stronger or weaker without you noticing. Also one final thought. Have a system of setting up so you check your golf grip strength as part of your pre-shot routine. Doing this will help to create greater consistency in your game on an ongoing basis.
