[G347]Golden Retriever Garden Statue
by Oddrun Saeterbo, Odd

Hey, friend! Well, It's a nice way to take visitors on a trip of your beautiful garden over them but it's a great finish if they lead to a stunning statue.

So, you are now telling me that the majestic garden statues look good in large gardens, public spaces, castles etc.? Well, you are right but a beautiful statue, if selected properly and installed at a strategic spot of your garden/ yard, would only enhance the overall beauty.

It is up to you to choose from the mind-boggling variety of statues available from $50 to $5000 or even more. They are made from many materials.

Traditionally they are carved from rocks and polished to smooth finish. Besides the sturdy granites, which take excellent polish, marble is a favorite since ages. It lends a mystique aura to your garden, if you choose a Greco-Roman style statue made of marble.

Even metallic statues made of bronze or brass was excellent options. Metallic statues are not suitable for areas with high atmospheric pollution, sea shores and ponds with doubtable water quality.

Needless to say, these are all expensive unless you go for a really small statue. There you are, garden statues with excellent craftsman ship are also available in concrete, plaster of Paris, terracotta, even fiberglass.

Once you made a choice of material based on environment, budget and your garden size etc., its time for selection. Choose a statue that befits your stature, your taste, your family members' tastes as well the layout of garden, landscaping to be done, your house décor, especially the exterior etc.

You have a large variety of statues to choose from: Little boys, angels, cherubs, ladies and gentlemen in a variety of postures and occupations, even lovely birds, marine animals and pet figures to fierce looking beasts.

Design the statues issuing out water either into a lavish tiled pool or into your own water garden. Small statues, installed almost hidden in vegetation would also thrill visitors.

Last but not least, is to verify availability of technicalities: servicing of choked water vents, structural strength of statue, guarantee of finish/ luster, maintenance involved, etc.

Many gardening businesses undertake to install it also, for free or a fee. Otherwise, its wise to take services of an experienced garden professional, not construction engineers.

Wish you success in your search.

It doesn't matter where you created it but how it was and how best you utilized your space and other resources. Outdoor gardens were best left to professionals to create on a turnkey basis, as per your ambitions, ideas and budget. On the other hand, if you and your spouse or son decides to involve in it from scratch, there are do it yourself kits.

Creating a natural looking outdoor artificial pond, or water garden, as some people and SEO junkies would like to call it, has many skill and labor intensive steps:

· Planning: Plan well in advance things like landscaping, statues, fountains, pond shape and size, waterfalls/ stream, pathways, islands and bridges, etc.

· Locating the pond: A level ground sans large trees with a little higher ground nearby, to create cascades or waterfall.

· Digging the pond area.

· Plumbing and Wiring: Pipe lines and optional pump with filters for pumping water and electrical supply to pump to be arranged carefully.

· Arranging fountains, statues, if any.

· Choosing a pond liner: A rigid liner for fixed shape or small size, flexible liner otherwise. Toxin free, durable, puncture proof liner has to be chosen.

· Preparing the pond, laying the liner: To prevent puncturing of liner afterwards, a layer of damp sand is laid before laying liner.

· Filling and allowing to set: water can be added to sagging liner, adjust it to correct kinks and allow water for a few days, to remove chlorine.

· Add Plant pots and Fish and snails: Pots of different aquatic plants for different depths can be added. Fish and snails be introduced.

Place a majestically towering statue in the front yard garden of house, if you have one, as a standalone in a lawn or flowerbed or in a cascade/ fountain pond, on a befitting ornate pedestal.

Marble statues of Cherubs, Little boy ‘peeing' a water spout, Beautiful lady endlessly pouring from a pot, birds or beasts gurgling out spouts etc., can go anywhere in garden or water garden. Lion heads and such other statues fit well for spouts mounted on wall or statue pedestal.

The waterfalls, cascades, fountains or waterspouts can be installed as standalone units or integrated with garden statues.

Both the statues and fountains need to be selected keeping in view, the landscape, the building, the garden, the pond layout etc.

So, if you have initiative, it's just possible to relax and ponder in nature's lap in your own house. Happy gardening!
