[G354]Golf Club Head Components
by Maria Ponce, Mar
A golf club is made up of many golf club components. Each component has evolved into a modern science that has produced a series of options and advancements that have made the game different now than it was just 10 years ago. Below you will find a rundown of the basic golf club components and a little information on each one.

The Head

The golf component that makes contact with the ball when is hit is known as the head. When the head of the golf club is called wood this golf club component will be a big piece of wood slightly arched in the front part and an area of mass behind that surface that produce a higher intensity hit that allow the ball to travel greater distances . Another type of golf club head is the one made of iron named ?iron head? and it posses an inclined surface with quite a lesser amount of mass behind it.

The surface that makes contact with the ball is called the striking area and the center of that is generally named the 'sweet spot.' The greater the inclination that the striking area has the higher the ball will go. The wooden golf club head is commonly made for shorter ranged shots and the irons are created for long distance shots that allow better control and a higher precision.

The Shaft

The shaft is another golf club component and there are mainly 2 types of it. Among the 2 types of shaft there are the metal type and the graphite one. The metal shaft is normally very rigid and some people believe it let you handle better the swing. The graphite shaft allows more free move and that let you reach greater distance with better accuracy. Currently the most common type of shaft out there is the metal type. But as time passes the graphite one is the shaft that will most likely prevail as the technology evolves and the metal shaft will remain as an ancient golf club component.

The Grip

At the top of the shaft is the golf club component known as the grip. This club component is normally made of a material such as rubber, and this is also the area that the golf player use to hold the club and accomplish the swing. Of all the golf club components, the grip is the one that has remained the same for the longest time, but recently it has acquired more popularity. The new thicker grips that are getting more famous have the advantage of providing the golf player a softer and more comfortable feeling while at the same time helping the golfer to hit the ball easier even when the material of the golf club remains rubber. Grips that are worn are very risky because they have a tendency of slipping out and could hurt innocent spectators. This is a risk that no one wants to take. The new type of grip contributes a lot to diminish this golf club slipping problem.
