[G332]Going Green For Business
by Lynne Saarte, Lyn
If your company has been eating the dust of your competitors, chances are your company has not been using the best practices approach. Today, if your company is not committed to excellence, your company would not survive. Look around you and see for yourself, you will find that business owners and employees who are constantly working to improve the quality of the product or services and continuously finding new ways are not only persevering but are growing as well.

It is fortunate for those lagging behind that there are those who are pioneers which they can benchmark from. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to business owners everywhere. Take the example of companies who have achieved a milestone in ensuring that their business interests are attuned with the principle of environmental sustainability.

Greening the Company
Going green is the current trend today. All business processes are being reviewed, from the use of energy to water conservation efforts ? all in the name of environmental sustainability. Fortune 500 companies are reviewing their carbon footprints, ushering in a new and sustainable business processes.

Companies in the manufacturing sector are creating a new environment division that offers a line of eco-friendly packaging products that also meets the budgets of clients and prospects - a new and innovative way of going green without going beyond the budget. Companies in the print industry are offering eco-friendly materials for their flyers or poster printing. These materials, although they're not considered cheap poster printing, come in the form of recycled paper or bio-degradable inks.

Bigger companies are taking the extra step by switching to 100 per cent solar power. Admittedly, these photovoltaic cells cost a lot but in the long run, the savings generated from these solar panels will offset the initial cost. Others have invested in water treatment facilities to recycle effluent water. These treatment facilities convert effluent water for gardening or flushing purposes. The savings from these initiatives as well as its benefits will generally outweigh the initial costs of building the infrastructure.

Not only are these companies' efforts protecting the planet, it is also creating a niche for themselves in corporate social responsibility. Establishing a good reputation in the causes such as environment conservation is definitely a plus factor for any business. It gives the impression that they are not only after profits, they are also looking after the welfare of their customers as well.

It seems like everyone is going green, and for good reason. We have learned that we are making an impact, and now have practical ways to reduce our carbon footprint on Earth. One of the greatest ways this eco-friendliness can be performed is with a wedding. Join me, as we take a look at how you too can go green in a wedding.

Now there is no need to go for a green wedding dress to make this happen! You don't have to do anything, however, the more you do, the more eco-friendly you will be, and the less harm you will do to the environment.

Here are some ways and areas that you can make a positive impact:
* With Carbon Offsets
* With Gift Registries
* With The Food
* Flowers And Decor
* Wedding Dresses And Attire
* The Location Of The Wedding
* Wedding Rings And Jewelry
* Wedding Invitations

* With Carbon Offsets
We all will impact the world, with the carbon we produce. We produce carbon dioxide naturally as we breathe. We also add carbon dioxide to the environment as we drive in cars, and when even buying food, because that food had to be transported, and required fuel that also produces carbon dioxide.

Now it is not possible to totally remove your carbon footprint. In fact, it is next to impossible, but there are ways to offset. For example companies sell carbon offsets that you can pay for. The money for the carbon offsets are used by the companies to invest in renewable energy projects, into planting trees and other areas that reduce our footprint.

This can be a great way to offset your weddings carbon footprint. However, there is some other ways to actively reduce your carbon footprint.

* With Gift Registries
It is a traditional thing for the bride and groom to create a gift registry, where guests can buy gifts for the bride and groom. This is an area that can make a big carbon footprint, because in most cases these are physical products. These products likely created a big carbon footprint. An idea is to create a gift registry, with products you know make the least impact, and are eco-friendly.

* With The Food
Going organic and finding food ingredients that are locally sourced can be a great way to make less of a footprint and improve the environment.

* Flowers And Decor
Flowers, like food can be sourced from places that are locally produced, utilizing organic fertilizers. Decor can also be sourced that is eco-friendly, and thus makes a positive impact.

* Wedding Dresses And Attire
Depending on how eco friendly you want to be, you can also make a positive impact with the wedding dress and attire. Second hand wedding dresses can be found that have only been worn once. Some designers are eco-friendly, and produce products that make the least impact on the environment.

* The Location Of The Wedding
More you travel, and guests travel, the more it will make a carbon footprint. Closer is better, so it is something to consider. Again consider offsetting the carbon.

* Wedding Rings And Jewelry
When you buy wedding rings and wedding jewelry that is new, the metal and precious stones has to be mined. A great way is with recycled gold, and precious stones. They are just as good as newly mined metals and precious stones.

* Wedding Invitations
With wedding invitations, we can often make a big footprint; however, we can easily change that with recycled paper. Another option is online wedding invitations.
