[G596]Gum Disease Look Like
by Anthony Stai, Ant
Gingivitis is the first phase of periodontal disease. It results when plaque forms on the teeth's surface and the gum line. When plaque builds up, the bacteria that compose it cause inflammation in the gums. A person with gingivitis has red and puffy gums that bleed easily.

Gingivitis develops into periodontitis over time. At this phase, bacterial infection damages the bones that support teeth and the connecting gum tissue resulting in pockets where more bacteria can flourish. This condition ultimately leads to tooth loss.

How can I stop gum disease?

Detecting and treating the problem while it has just started is the best way to put a stop to periodontal disease. Pay attention to your gum's health. Healthy gums should be pink in color, firm, odorless and should not bleed with normal brushing. If the condition of your gums is the opposite, you likely have a problem. Make sure to see your dentist regularly. Most people are not aware they have a problem until their dentist points out the problem to them.

How can I stop gum disease through clinical treatment?

Your dentist or periodontist may perform several cleaning procedures in your mouth. Root planing or scaling are ways to remove the buildup of plaque and tartar in your teeth and gums. Your dentist may also place antimicrobial liquid solutions beneath your gum line through a procedure called periodontal irrigation to wash out any remaining bacteria in the infected gums.

Severe gum diseases may require periodontal surgery, which removes the infected gum to expose and strip off bacteria. In case of critical bone loss, the dentist will perform a bone graft. To complete the surgery, the dentist will cover the treated area with a new gum line through a skin graft.

How can I stop gum disease naturally?

A diet filled with nutrients, especially Vitamin C, will boost your body's ability to combat bacterial infection. There are also natural home remedies to prevent and cure gum disease such as rinsing with chamomile to lessen inflammation and peppermint tea to fight bad breath. Natural dental products such as toothpastes made with tea tree oil helps prevent gum disease in a gentle yet effective way. Knowing these products and their applications keeps me from wondering "How can I stop gum disease?"

One of the most common problems people encounter with their mouths are bleeding gums. This usually light bleeding is a sign of stress in the gum tissue and could indicate gum disease starting to take hold in your mouth. This could be a minor problem that is easily corrected or an indicator of major difficulties for the mouth or the entire body. The diagnosis of cause for bleeding gums is confused by the many possible causal factors.
The most common gum disease is gingivitis and most people are familiar with the term from television advertisements for dental products. Gingivitis gets the name from the gingival tissue of the gum that surrounds the bottom of the teeth in the mouth. If people practice poor oral health and allow plaque to stay on their teeth, it can feed an explosion of bacteria under the gums at the base of the teeth.
The bacteria are the basic elements of the gum disease gingivitis because they multiply rapidly and irritate the gum tissue. The irritation will cause swelling of the tissues and a change of color from healthy pink to angry red. Minor gum bleeding is a normal symptom and often seen during flossing activities near the base of the teeth.
Gingivitis is not a painful gum disease and can be cured usually be a good cleaning either at home or by the dentist. Mouthwash can fight the growth of the bacteria associated with the disease with alcohol or other antibiotic type ingredients. The daily rinsing of a mouth with these agents can reduce the bacteria growth to normal levels in a few days. If the action is combined with flossing the effects are very rapid.
Gingivitis is a minor gum disease in most cases but can be a warning sign of bad health habits and can lead to more advanced diseases. One of the more destructive diseases that can start with gingivitis is periodontitis. While gingivitis is relatively calm and painless, periodontitis is not either.
Another tool for gum disease prevention is flossing. Flossing is able to get directly at the connections between the teeth and gums where bacteria like to hide. The flossing action helps move the bacteria into the open mouth for removal. Flossing will also serve to show signs of bleeding gums earlier as a warning of gum inflammation.
Some causes of bleeding gums other than gum disease are leukemia and diabetes. Diabetes has the tendency to affect many parts of the body adversely, but the gums are an early target for problems. Bleeding gums may be a sign of undiagnosed diabetes that has just manifested first there. If it is diabetes then it will foster the growth of other gum disorders soon.
Periodontitis is a serious gum disease that can be prevented much easier than it can be treated. Keeping the gum and teeth areas clean often and using an antiseptic mouthwash to control the bacteria are essential actions.
