[G540]Groom On Wedding Day
by Eric Hartwell, Eri

Boys will be boys. Even men remain boys at heart. All they live for is sports, hanging out with their buddies and their career. But the time will come when they will finally find a reason to turn away from their toys, decline invitations to hang out at times and work harder than ever. Life now does not revolve around work and play anymore. And that reason for their sudden change of heart would be a woman, but not just any woman. She would be a woman so precious that marriage would be as precious to him as the woman is.

Wedding Preparations and Grooms

In the wedding planning process, usually the groom is the less involved party of the two. In the American culture, the groom does not even have the responsibility to monetarily provide for the needs of the wedding. This is due to the fact that, once he and his bride are husband and wife, the wife shall never need to provide for herself or for her husband since he shall be the one who will be taking care of her for the rest of their married life. Of course, wedding planning is not the bride's work only. For some couples, the groom actually is just as involved as his bride, and it is the duty of the groom to appoint his best man and his groomsmen. It is also his responsibility to be ready and available to his bride who may need his help and support along the wedding preparation.

Wedding Days and Grooms

The groom is usually waiting by the altar together with the entourage while the bride walks down the aisle last. The groom will then meet the bride and her parents either by the altar or walk towards them. Then the father of the bride will give the hand of her daughter's to the groom. This signifies that the father is giving away his daughter to the man she loves. He then accepts his bride from his parents-in-law. Although many say that the wedding day is about the bride, that is not so. Wearing only the finest suit, be it black or white, all eyes are on him as well. At the end of the ceremony, he will be the one accepting the congratulations of their guests while his wife will be accepting their best wishes.

Afterwards, it is off to the wedding reception. Besides sharing a sumptuous meal and a perfect occasion, the groom together with the bride accepts gifts of speeches and toasts from their guests. This is also the perfect time to thank them for sharing with them the celebration of their union. Of course, similar to the throwing of the bridal bouquet, the groom has a big part in the activities as well by throwing to their single male guests the garter his wife wore on her thigh. The lucky man who catches it is said to be the next one who will walk down the aisle next.

And the groom, who may seem to hold his composure so well throughout the whole wedding process, just may be the happiest man alive.
