[H1704]How To Treat Panic Attacks
by J. Beebe, J.
Before I get into the treatment of panic attacks, we'll go over some of the basics as to what causes panic attacks to occur. Excessive anxiety is on of the main reasons why panic attacks occur, in fact, all a panic attack is a sudden spike of fear/anxiety that comes unexpectedly and without any obvious reason. If you are reading this article, however, you probably are well acquainted with panic attacks, and probably know more than you want to about them.

There is no need to worry if you suffer from anxiety, or panic attacks. Nearly 1/3 of American adults have at least one panic attack, but don't develop repeated attacks. Surprisingly, with all the talk about OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), bipolar disorder, PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), etc, panic attacks actually surpass those in terms of emotional disorders.

If you think you suffer from panic attacks, but are unsure, listed below are the most common symptoms of panic attacks:

- difficulty breathing/shortness of breath

- very fast-paced heartbeat

- excessive nervousness, shakiness, or stress

- paralytic terror every once in a while

- choking or chest pains

- dizziness, nausea, or feeling light-headed

- sudden chills and/or hot flashes

- excessive anxiety or fear

- ?pins and needles? on your fingers and toes

If you suffer from a significant amount of those symptoms, there's a good chance that you suffer from panic attacks. There are many ways to find information on how to treat anxiety attacks, unfortunately, there is no one set way to teach so I won't be able to go over all of them in this article. You can contact local agencies to get you the help and/or the prescriptions you need to get over this problem. Don't fret, however, it is a curable disorder and shouldn't be left alone.

Do an internet search on some of the following agencies: American Counseling Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy, Freedom From Fear, NAMI, National Anxiety Foundation... the list goes on. After finding websites to some of those different organizations, you can either call or usually write an Email and they will get back to you with some questions on your panic attack ?level? and tell you the best possible way to treat your panic attacks.

Panic attacks can alter our moods, our perception, and ruin some of the many moments in life that we would otherwise find breathtaking. Nobody should have to deal with panic attacks when there is help available?and there is plenty of help available when it comes to panic attacks and anxiety attacks.

When you suddenly feel out of breath and dizzy, or you cannot think straight, you could be having a panic attack. Panic attacks occur more often than you might think and to anyone. Actually, everyone at some point in their lives has had one. To treat panic attack and anxiety attack when they occur is the most effective way to cure them.

First and foremost, you must learn to recognize what triggers your panic attacks. These are different for every sufferer, so it is extremely important that you are hones with your doctor and yourself to make sure you are as prepared as possible to fend off another attack.

Next, I suggest that you look for alternate ways to handle the business at hand. If you discover that grocery shopping is one major stressor for you, see if there is a different way to go about it. Do you only panic when you are alone? If so, take a companion. Do you find that it is just one specific store that sets you off? Then just find a different store.

Many people are so badly affect by panic attacks that they let it take over their lives. They do not like going out and they don't take part in activities. They fear that they will make a fool of themselves. The panic attack is normally temporary, but it does feel very long when it is happening. Many people describe the incident as a heart attack. In fact, a lot of people are rushed into the hospital thinking that they are having a heart attack when it is not.

To treat panic attacks you have to first of all know how it feels and what to expect. You must understand that you will not die from it. The symptoms will go away, and this will all depend on you. You can make them go away faster by concentrating on them and how they are affecting you. You should take some deep breaths, and even do some kind of meditation techniques.

This will help you to calm down and the symptoms will go away faster. You can also try the prevention technique. Those who get stressed out very easily are prone to panic attacks. If you are like this, then eliminate stress.

Go for a run every day to release endorphins. Take out your frustrations by doing kickboxing or some other activity. You could choose to paint or read as a form of escape, or even just taking a long bubble bath might work.

Whatever you find makes you less stressed, do this to stop panic attacks before they even start. If you find yourself in a stressful situation and you start having a panic attack, try to stay calm. You have to talk yourself out of the attack and control your body.

This is easier said than done, but if you understand what is happening, you will find it easier to do. You will not panic about panicking, and you will not freak out if you suddenly can't breathe or feel light headed. Take a minute, shut out the world, and focus on yourself for the best panic attack treatment.
