[H1665]How To Style Fine Hair
by Stephen Lambbert, Ste
If you have fine or thinning hair you might feel it is difficult to find a hair style that suits you. A trip to a barber or hairdresser can be a source of distress.
Be sure to confidently state exactly what sort of hairstyle you want. It is common for people with thinning hair to want to get out of the hairdressers as soon as possible, but you could end up regretting it if you leave with a style that accentuates your thinning.
A clean, short cut is almost always the best choice for men. Do not grow it long or jell it. It only highlights the thinning. Hair nearly always looks as it if has more body when it is short.
Never try to 'comb over' the thinning hair. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
This will almost definitely bring unwanted attention and highlight what you are trying to conceal.
To reduce the contrast between scalp and hair try dyeing it closer to your scalp colour. So if you are light skinned try a lighter colour. Conversely for darkers scalps dye your hair darker.
Many shampoos and thickeners add volume to thinning hair.
It is also advisable not to let fine or thinning hair get too greasy.
For women, chin length cuts are recommended by most stylists. Again, attention and emphasis will be on the features, face and neck, rather than the hair.
As is similar for men, hair that is too long will make the hair appear weaker and thinner than it actually is. Curling irons and straighteners should be avoided as they can seriously damage hair.
A 'bobb' is great for adding volume for women, especially when the hair is pinned back behind the ears.
At all costs avoid extensions. They can completely damage your hair follicle which is already weak.
