And what is that exactly? Simply this - The winners know how to apply the following elements to every aspect of their business, and they understand how to extract the benefits that will inflate their bottom line.

These elements are:

They are as fundamental to the new online business owner as they are to the seasoned entrepreneur. They serve as a reliable guide that will help you avoid the pitfalls and bad habits that can quickly sink your business ambitions.

Preparation

From selecting the right product, business model, domain name, Web site design, all the way through copywriting, credit card processing and customer service, proper preparation is key to getting your business off the ground on a solid footing.

As your business grows, sound preparation and planning will serve as a useful barometer against which to check your progress, allowing you to make quick adjustments when needed. This perparation also applies to your budgeting, marketing, advertising, and promotional campaigns; even to joint venture alliances you may form.

It's important to be prepared with layers of contingency plans in case the originals don't work out as expected. You never want to be caught in a situation that leaves you dead in the water.

Your money If somebody told you that you can make it for free, do not believe it. First, you will have to pay for certain technical elements of your business: hosting, advertisement, distribution, hardware, software, scripts, financial services, domain name, etc. Second, you will have to learn, and the knowledge always comes at some expense. So be prepared to spend from $20 to $500 monthly, or more, this will depend on the type of your online trade. Still, comparing to offline business the start-ups are ridiculously small, and this is probably the source of a myth of easy money from the web. Easy money from the web is a folly, from which certain people are making pretty good money. I am talking about numerous web scams, which you have to learn to recognize. So, if you are serious about starting online business, you better be ready to invest some cash right out of your pocket into it.
Your knowledge You have to invest into your online business your skills from offline world and to use all new knowledge, which you will acquire in the process of development of your web business. Some of that knowledge will come for you for free, some you will have to pay for. The more experienced you will be online, the more money online business will bring you.
Like in offline world, success online is impossible without investment of time, money and knowledge. Those are three necessary ingredients for success of online business, however, more important is that it worth it all!
