It is important to figure out a way to stop your anxiety as early as possible; the longer you live with your anxiety, the more used to it you get, and the more you will allow it to limit your life.

Anxiety is a broad term and how to stop anxiety varies with what kind of anxiety you are experiencing. The method of approach will be somewhat different if you are suffering from generalized anxiety disorder than if panic attacks are your problem. Still, there are things that have been proven to work really well to reduce all different types of anxiety.

When you are trying to figure out how to stop anxiety, the first thing you need to do is an inventory to find out what is causing your anxiety in the first place. Anxiety is very rarely random, even if it might seem like it to you when it's happening. For instance, you may feel like your panic attacks are coming out of the blue when you are just relaxing with your family on the weekend. You see no reason for why you should experience anxiety, but you don't think about how you have been extremely stressed at work all week, just building up tension that needs to be released somehow.

Exercise is maybe the single most effective way to stop anxiety. It has been proven to greatly reduce anxiety levels in both the short and the long term. Fairly intense cardio workouts seem to work the best. If you really want to learn how to stop anxiety from ruining your life, you should start exercising on a regular basis. You don't have to do marathons; a 20 or even ten minute intense workout several times a week will help your body release old tension and keep you from building up new tension.

Everybody with anxiety wants to do something about it, but they don't know how. To stop anxiety is usually a two part process;

1. You need to figure out a way to prevent it from happening, usually by creating new routines in your life that are stress reducing.

2. You need to find new ways to deal with your anxiety when it happens. Avoiding situations that make you feel anxious may work as a short term solution, but in the long term it is feeding your anxiety disorder. The same goes for using alcohol and drugs to feel better.

A lot of people with anxiety turn to self medication because they realize they need to feel better but they don't know how. To stop anxiety by healthy means may not give you the same instant relief as drugs and alcohol, but it is the only way to actually, and permanently, deal with your problem.

What happens when you are young can have a deep impact in adult life. It is the parent's responsibility to identify anxiety in children and address the issue at the beginning, before it begins to permanent affect the child.

Psychological Help Might Be Needed

Anxiety in children cannot be ignored and needs to be addressed appropriately. This is best achieved by a trained medical professional. Individual psychotherapy is considered the first line of treatment by many doctors. Group psychotherapy works by reassuring the child that he is not alone. There are others like him in the same situation.

Children live with their parents and so,often handle their anxiety in the same manner as their parents. So in some cases, the parents need counseling to learn how to deal appropriately with anxiety and stress. Often the entire family is involved, the child's entire environment should be compassionate and encouraging. If you feel that the reason for the caused anxiety is school, then it is probably better to opt for school based counseling.

It is necessary to understand the emotional needs of the child if we are to stop anxiety in children. And both teachers and parents have a crucial role in this. They should put in an effort to remain extra calm and patient. Any situation which triggers anxiety in children should be planned for ahead of time, in order to manage the situation in the best way possible. Probably the best way to fight anxiety in children is by constantly praising and encouraging him - this is a strategy that should give good results. Special care is taken for children whose anxiety is due to school phobias. When this happens, teachers need to allow late arrival and thus provide extra time and even allow slow responses while working. A cooperative teacher is a great help.

Seek A Doctor's Help If Needed

There are many drugs that address the problem of anxiety in children. The most common used line of drugs is the antidepressant. But it may take up to two to four weeks after the drugs have been administered for the results become apparent. And you will also need to check for possible side effects. Herbal supplements are another very good treatment alternative.

Medication and supplements are never enough to solve the issue. The home and environment is equally, if not more important. Yes, there may be severe cases when medication is the only hope, but generally medication, counseling and environment should work hand in hand to solve the anxiety in children.
