Therapy is a profession that has increased in the awareness of the general population as we've become a culture more focused on self-care and taking care of our body, mind, and soul more consistently. There are many professions that fall under the title of therapy. The most common is that of psychotherapy which encompasses grief therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, cognitive therapy, and family therapy. Individuals who offer services in these types of therapy typically are Counselors, Social Workers, or Psychologists with graduate degrees.

The Purpose of Counseling

The primary focus is on helping individuals, couples, and groups improve their quality of life through gain a better understanding of their emotional and mental health. Typically, clients visit with these professionals on a weekly basis and may meet for a short-term to resolve the immediate need or over a longer period of time to get to deeper issues limiting someone's enjoyment of life.

Children Benefit Greatly from Play Therapy

Play therapy is a variant of psychotherapy that focuses on working with children or those with emotional trauma. Through the use of play techniques, the therapist aims to help in resolving whatever issue may be keeping the person stuck. Techniques here include acting, drawing, thought-provoking games, taking pictures, storytelling, and combining different elements like stories and drawing. The intent is to use these methods as a metaphor for assisting the child in discovering a truth or understanding about themselves.

Massage and Physical Therapy Nurture the Body

Massage therapy and physical therapy are other professions more focused on the physical health of those who are seeking proactive or reparative health, respectively. Massage therapy is usually performed on a weekly basis - or occasionally if in a resort, salon, or spa area. Physical therapy is a restorative healing profession, typically affiliated with a hospital or outpatient clinic. Increased movement, mobility, or a decrease in pain are the typical objectives of someone seeking physical therapy. Through the use of various forms of therapy, individuals can increase their quality of life emotional, mentally, and physically.

It seems all you hear today is about living a greener lifestyle. You need to reduce your carbon footprint and your environmental impact. We all know that this is important, but it can feel like being lectured at times.
However, there are some easy ways to live a greener life. Curbside recycling is in place in most cities, where you can simply place your recyclables out with your trash for pickup (in a separate container, of course). It's easy to separate your plastic, aluminum and other recyclable materials. The recycling pickup service takes care of the rest ? all you have to do is to take it outside!
Joining your local Freecycle list is another great way to live greener. Don't throw things away ? put them on the list and look there for things you need instead of buying new items. Odds are, someone will want what you've got to give away. By the same token, if there's something you need, it is more than likely to be found for the taking there as well. This keeps these items out of landfills and saves everyone money.
Composting your food scraps can save you money in garbage waste and provide you with great soil next season for your own garden. It also keeps a lot of good stuff out of the landfills. Just keep adding your fruit and vegetable wastes, egg shells, coffee grounds, and grains to the compost pile. You can add your raked leaves and lawn clippings as well. Don't add meat or bones? they will attract insects like flies and will take longer to compost. Water the compost down once in awhile to get the enzymes activated. Come spring, you'll have some nice compost soil to add to your own vegetable garden for more healthy eating.
Other things you can do will just make your home more comfortable. Larger windows can help let in more natural light so you don't need to turn your lights on early. Using compact fluorescent bulbs can save you money and will save energy. Use energy-efficient appliances and don't leave your air conditioner on when you're not at home. You'll be amazed at how much this impacts your energy usage.
Batteries are another way that you can save money and go green at the same time. Modern rechargeable batteries are long lasting, easy to charge and save you a lot of money. When they do finally run out of charges for good, they are recyclable at your local hardware store, just like broken fluorescent bulbs.
Once you get started, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to live greener. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel... both physically and mentally. Plus, you'll feel better knowing you're doing your part to have a healthier planet to live on. So go ahead... live greener and live longer. You'll be happy you gave it a try.
