[H1351]How To Lose Your Tummy
by Teresa Brown, Ter
Trying to lose weight after giving birth can give you a headache especially when you're trying to lose your tummy. Rules, diets, schedules, and a new baby can be a lot to handle but here are five simple stress releasing ways you can toss the extra pounds without losing your mind.
1. Yoga - This is a popular exercise for moms who are keen to lose the tummy and get toned and lean. Yoga comes in various traditions so find one that suites your tastes and sign up and get stretching. If you like saunas and don't mind sweating, you should try a 90 minute session of Bikram Yoga to burn the baby fat and sweat out those toxins from your body. Or you can join a Yin Yoga class for deeper stretching and challenge your muscles with its longer duration of the poses. No time to leave the house? Then rent or buy a Yoga DVD and workout at home.
2. Kickboxing - On the flip side of the coin, a good way to lose your tummy fast while freeing stress is to take up Kickboxing. The pacing of your feet, the muscles used in your legs and the intensity of the workout ensures knockout results when burning the baby fat.
3. Herbal Tea - Instead of the vanilla lattes and the diet Pepsi colas, why not drink some herbal tea? Relax with a soothing cup of Green, White or Oolong tea. All of which are high in anti-oxidants and can help you lose your tummy. Herbal teas are a healthy alternative to satisfying your caffeine fix without the high sugar or fat.
4. Beef it up - Lean turkey and chicken is a safe bet when you are on a diet and trying to get your protein. But people often forget about the benefits of beef. Rich in zinc, iron and B vitamins, beef can reduce the mood swings and settle down the stress while giving your body the nutrients it needs. Portion sizing is the key to including beef in your diet successfully.
5. Laughter - Laughing really is the best medicine when stuck in the stressful chore of losing pregnancy weight. Rent a comedy or play some games over dinner with friends. Laughter releases endorphins just like your morning jog and can take your mind off your bodies weight gain and loss.
Losing your tummy can be a long and unpleasant journey but only if you make it that way. Getting healthy and staying that way will require throwing out the old bad lifestyle habits to embrace new healthy ones and having fun along the way.

Despite all the diets out there, we are getting fatter and the diet industry is growing exponentially. This is because the average person usually takes the fast road to nowhere with the latest diet hyped in magazines and infomercials for a quick fix to lose weight. Unfortunately, the weight returns with a vengeance and we aren't the better off for it.
Diets don't work yet we stubbornly persist in dieting which is why it's a staggering 30 billion dollar industry in the U.S. Losing your tummy will be achieved by living a healthy lifestyle. It's as simple as choosing to do so. The hard part is to actually do it for life.
Unlike a healthy diet that consists of a balanced nutrition with a variety of foods, the typical diet is grossly skewed nutritionally because it either restricts or over emphasizes a particular food or mixture of foods. The following diets only undermine your ability to lose your tummy because you usually end up with fleeting results at a cost to your health.
Anti-Carb Diets
Diets with the "carb is bad" philosophy, such as Sugar Busters, can make you lose your tummy but it is usually too rigid and difficult to maintain for the long term. Carbohydrates are the first source of fuel for your body and keeping this fuel scarce will only make you tired and cranky.
Carbohydrates are essential for our body functions. The problem is that we are eating too much of the highly refined (high glycemic) carbs found in foods such as white potatoes, quick breads, and sugars in baked goods and too little of the low glycemic carbs such as whole grains. Low-carb diets may help you to lose your tummy and keep weight off for up to a year but it's unrealistic and unhealthy to maintain for an entire lifetime.
Fat-Free Diets
Committing to a fat-free diet is just switching to a diet high in carbohydrates. Too much carbs can leads to diabetes and hypertension. Most fat-free products compensate the lack of fat by adding sugar and are "fat-free" but still high in calories thanks to the sugar.
Not all dietary fats are bad for you. You need to focus on ensuring that your diet gets more of the good unsaturated fats and much less of the saturated and trans fats. Fats provide fuel for our cells but they also contribute to our body's normal functionality on the cellular and biochemical levels.
If you want to lose your tummy for good, then going on a diet is the wrong way to go about it. Not only will you gain back the weight you lost but it will also put your health at risk and your self-esteem, motivation and desire to succeed in jeopardy. Be responsible for your health. It means making food choices that are not detrimental to your health, and getting more physically active. Make the right choice and never look back at weight again.
