[H1499]How To Prevent Breakouts
by Nathan James, Nat
Instead of trying to deal with an acne breakout after it happens, people who have to deal with regular acne breakouts would be better off if they worked to prevent breakouts from ever happening in the first place. There are lots of reasons why a person may experience an acne breakout. For example, excessively tight clothing or clothes that trap sweat and oil can cause the skin to breakout with acne. Hormonal imbalances can also be responsible for acne.
Essentially, acne care involves insuring the sebum from the sebaceous glands does not have the chance to mix with dead cells and form a block in the pores, which becomes visible in the form of acne.
While there are some long-held beliefs about certain foods contributing to the outbreaks of acne, science has not been able to find a connection. Additionally, acne care is not something that only those going through puberty or other hormonal chances need to worry about. Acne knows no age limit and is not gender specific. It can attack people of any age unless appropriate acne care is exercised.
Sweating from rigorous exercise, especially if confined with tight clothing can add to the potential for an acne breakout. Showering immediately after an exercise session can lessen the chances of an outbreak. However, good acne care also includes exfoliating the dead skin cells from the surface, followed up with a moisturizer to help the dried skin from flaking and causing additional acne troubles.
Proper Skin Cleansing: Not Just Soap and Water
Some people imagine that they are taking the necessary steps to prevent acne breakouts, yet they still experience skin problems. Sometimes the soap that people imagine is helping to prevent acne is actually the source of the problem. Some drier sheets used in laundry and some deodorant soaps can be responsible for acne breakouts. Certain types of make-up contain high amounts of oil and thus can make the skin prone to a breakout of acne as well.
To care for the skin, you should use a 5% benzoyl peroxide solution on sensitive areas and a 10% formula on areas where your skin is thicker. Remember, however, that moisturizing the skin with an oil-free moisturizer is important after administering a benzoyl peroxide solution since the latter dries out the skin.
You may need to visit a dermatologist if you have found that, despite using several different acne products, your acne problem has not gotten better at all. The dermatologist can suggest a topical medication or even a prescription antibiotic if they believe it would be necessary in your case.

With new research coming out every day and studies linking common sense steps along with products you can easily obtain without a doctor's prescription, you can get control back over your skin in no time.

Here is how to gain acne control in 6 easy steps:

1.No Rubbing Or Picking!

For once, mom was right. (Ok, she's probably right about a lot of things). You shouldn't pick at your face when you have a breakout of whiteheads or blackheads. Aside from running the risk of leaving behind permanent acne scars, you also are spreading your acne by popping your zits. You're not making it better at all by using this as a short-term solution. You're only making matters worse. So don't do it!

2.Use A Sulfur Based Soap Specifically For Acne

You should wash your face a couple times a day with a sulfur based soap for maximum acne control. If your skin is very oily, then benzoyl peroxide based soap may be better. The key here is a “couple” of times a day, as in twice a day. More than that and you run the risk of your sebaceous glands going into overtime and producing more acne. Stick with the label instructions here and don't overdo it.

3.You Are What You Eat

If you are eating very fatty, oily foods, your skin is likely going to show it. Cut back on the junk food and foods high in saturated fats for better acne control. Recent studies have shown a strong link between these foods and acne outbreaks. A healthier diet can make a big difference in your skin.

4.Drink and Be Merry!

Water, that is. All that talk you hear about six to eight glasses of water a day is for a reason. Water helps flush toxins from your body, either through your kidneys or out of your skin in the form of perspiration. The more water you drink, the better you flush everything out and the less chance of clogged pores. So drink up and be happy that your skin will look better!

5.Stop or Cut Back On The Makeup

If you can get by with no makeup, your skin will be better off. However, if you feel that you really need to wear some, then make sure that it's water based and at the end of the day, be sure to remove it. Don't go to bed with your makeup on and use a good quality cleanser and makeup remover to thoroughly clean your face.

6.Avoid The Oil

Stay away from oily moisturizers and cleansers. These will only serve to clog your pores and make your skin worse. Use a good quality oil-free moisturizer and cleanser for better skin and acne control.

Taking control of your skin isn't that hard once you know the steps. Good diet and proper hydration don't cost a penny. Using quality products may cost more up front, but will more than pay for themselves in healthier, more beautiful skin later on.
