[H1453]How To Organic Farm
by James Marriot, Jam
Organic farming is an 'ecological production management system'. Organic agriculture promotes biodiversity, biological cycles, & activities relating to soil biology. This type of farming is based on minimal utilization of inputs from off-farm & on practices of management that reinstate, enhance and maintain ecological harmony.

Organic foodstuff handlers, retailers and processors stick to values that sustain the reliability of products made from organic farming techniques. The main objective of organic farming is to increase the health & productivity of interdependent groups of plants, soil life, animals & people.

In US, farmers have been practicing organic farming for decades. State & private establishments also began coming up during 1990s to set standards of organic farming & grant third-party confirmation of label assertions. The bill requiring national standard was given green signal in the 90s. Thus, most divisions of the American organic farm segment have expanded ever since United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) set organic standards in the year 2000.

About fifty organic verification programs, both private and state, are currently recognized by US Department of Agriculture to certify U.S. ranchers, farmers & processors.

More U.S. farmers are considering to adopt organic farming systems to lower input expenses, preserve non-renewable energy resources, capture large-value markets, & raise farm incomes.

About an hour outside of Johannesburg, South Africa there is a truly wonderful area called the Cradle of Humankind. Named for being the place where humans first became human and began to walk upright, this area was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999, one of the first in South Africa. And nestled in the buffer zone of this amazing place is an organic farm, Little Dunmow Farm.

It's the ideal setting for a farm, with rolling fields and the wide open South African sky. Here, one can find peace among the trees that are scattered about the property and relax on the porch of the main house. Little Dunmow Farm is 23 acres, but with only a small part of it actually being cultivated, there are plenty of fields to roam, or ride horseback, if you are so inclined.

There is so much to see and do here. South Africa is a fascinating place to visit and to live, with a culture that is vibrant and full. The area is quite beautiful and wild, though it is very near city centers. A piece of the real Africa, preserved and cultivated.

Here you'll find beds of fancy lettuce, along with gardens full of herbs, cultivated to sell. There's truly nothing like being out in the African sun, tending to an aromatic bed of herbs! It could easily be something out of a book written by an adventurer. To top it all off, the farm overlooks the majestic Magaliesberg Mountains, adding to an already great view.

Little Dunmow Farm is near enough to both Johannesburg and Pretoria to allow for easy supply pickup and access to local cultural activities. Many visitors to the area enjoy a tour of the Sterkfonein Caves, where the unique composition of limestone created the ideal environment to fossilize the beings that died there. There is also a museum to visit, as well as tour guides who can explain the history and finds here in the caves.

This is an area full of history and the organic farm sits right smack dab in the middle of it all. With two houses, five staff quarters, a barn and several other outbuildings, the farm is just waiting to be taken to its full potential. The view, the land and the wide open African skies make Little Dunmow Farm a truly enchanting place to live and work.
