[H1171]How To Get My Emails
by Glen Hopkins, Gle
So how do you get your message to stand out from the crowd?

By grabbing attention with a well-crafted headline/subject line.

To help draw attention to your email, the first step you should take is to use your name in the 'From' field. Never use Admin, Support or your website name. Your emails are always 'from' your name.

For example, whenever somebody receives an email from me, the 'From' always says 'Glen Hopkins.' I do this because I want to brand my name and when people see my name, they recognize it immediately. It also tends to make the email personal, like you are a friend and a good start in developing a one-to-one relationship with your customers.

The other thing you should do is put a hyphen on either side of your name, like this: (-Glen Hopkins-)

By doing this, the hyphen forces your message to be displayed at the top of all other email messages, assuming of course, that subscribers view their inboxes by sorting messages using the 'From' sort.

Use your subscriber's name in the subject line. The more personalization you can use in the subject line, the greater your open rate will be for messages that you send. In fact, whenever it makes sense, include your subscriber's first name and if possible, include other personal information, such as the name of their city, the product they purchased from you and the date of the purchase. This is an excellent way to build trust and to get the subscriber to know you.

You will also want to make the subject line as intriguing as possible. Peak the reader's curiosity. The goal is to get them from reading the subject line to opening and reading your email.

One of the greatest ways of doing this is to ask a question. People naturally want to know the answer.

Here are some examples:

Hi Joe, It's me, Glen

Joe, did you hear what's happening tonight?

I shouldn't be telling you this Joe..

Did you get your copy Joe?

Can you make it to New York, Joe?

I don't normally do this, Joe but..

Joe, this is your last chance.

Joe, do you know the secrets of building a huge list?

You're not going to believe this Joe.

It's important that email recipients view your emails as valuable; otherwise they won't open them in the future. Even if customers don't buy right away, they may do so in the future, especially if you keep in contact with them in a personable and friendly way and with an interesting subject line.

Always keep in mind when writing subject lines that curiosity may kill the cat, but it gets your subscriber to open emails.

The one thing most people do when they go to work, wake up in the morning or head on to school do is check their emails. As a communication tool, it is one of the most efficient ones available today and we use them for almost every aspect of our lives. Our mail client is the vessel that carries all our communicae' and while we would like it to be trouble free, this isn't usually the case. Spam is a great problem nowadays and it pervades the entire world like some digital endemic we cannot escape from.

Coined as a derogatory term towards mass emailing and marketing, spam has now taken on new and more complex forms, with methods that boggle even some anti virus systems and find themselves in our inbox. What is a mild irritant at first can turn into something more dangerous if not treated early. This is especially so when you are in business and you need to get your emails in order. Nothing can slow your day, frustrate you, elevate your stress levels and put a clog in your business like spam. How does it get there in the first place? Well there are many ways that a spam network can get a hold of your email.

There are email sniffers out there who are dedicated worms, which track the digital network for any loose email addresses. The compile a list of literally millions of emails a day based on searches through forums, e-zines, websites, databases and collectives online. There are also worms which infect a single email address, steal the password and then retrieve their email list, which then each one gets infected, sending all the information back to a central server or a gate way in the internet where the hacker will store all his information. This is the deadly cycle of email stealing that goes on daily on the internet because spam networks will pay good money for a huge collection of emails.

These spam operators usually root themselves in countries where it is not recognised as illegal and operate from that jurisdiction, which explains why spamming is still a giant problem today. It is the sum total of the lowest common denominators of online marketing as is considered a despicable way to market goods. Most of the goods that come in spam usually are male organ enlargers or pornography, so based on the type of market that associated itself with this sort of marketing, you then know the debased level of digital existence that it belongs to. In any case, the only draw of this is the percentages.

With usually no more than a 0.1% hit rate with spam emailing, out of 20 million emails, that is still generated profit for the company. They have sophisticated technology behind them and a team of hackers, so the general advice is to get a good spam block system to get your emails in order and protect the integrity of your mail client.
