[H1055]How To Engagement Party
by Larry J. Reaves, Lar

Becoming engaged is a special moment in your life and you are so excited that you want to share your good news with everyone. Engagement party etiquette has changed over the years. Traditionally, the engage party was given by the bride's parents. Today, there are no set rules; anyone can give an engagement party. You can give the engagement party yourself.

Engagement parties are meant to be fun and a way for everyone from both sides of the families to get to know each other. You want to set the right tone and make sure everyone is relaxed and enjoying themselves. You want to make the party fun and something everyone will always remember.

Party Decorations

You will want to make sure you decorate according to the theme you have chosen, such as a beach theme. One thing to remember is to decorate outside by your driveway. You can tie balloons to your mailbox or put a sign in your yard. This way people who haven't been to your home, until now, will know they have found the right place.

You can use whimsical party decorations such as a huge inflated or plastic engagement ring. A humorous decoration is a plastic ball and chain. You also want to have a collage or picture album that represents the couple.

You can contact members of both sides of the family and get pictures from their childhood up to the present and make a decorative scrapbook that will become a cherished keepsake. You can also make a collage that can be placed on the wall.

Party Favors

You will want to have party favors for all your guests to remember this happy occasion. They don't have to be expensive; it is the thought that counts. You can also give out party favors that have been personalized with the happy couple's image. You can get their image put on things such as key rings, coasters and magnets.

The favors can be anything that you want to give your guests as they leave, so they will always remember this happy occasion. You can give small gifts such as candles, chocolates or bath soaps. There are an endless number of choices to fit the theme of your engagement party and your budget.

Party Games

Party games are a great icebreaker and will help your guests relax and get to know one another. There are many games that can be played. These games usually involve asking questions about the bride and groom and seeing who answers the most questions correctly. If you search online you will find plenty of games to be enjoyed at your engagement party.

You can hand out prizes to the winners of your games. They don't have to be expensive and can relate to your party theme. Items such as candles and picture frames are excellent for prizes for the winners. Just use your imagination and you will find the perfect item to buy.

No matter who gives the engagement party, it is a time to celebrate the happy couple and their new lives together as a couple.

Confer about the festivities with the future wife and husband both present. You really do need to consider the personality of the bride and groom if you are going to give them an unforgettable engagement party. When planning an engagement party, the couple should be consulted before any decisions are made. Choose a day agreeable to all concerned, as well as the location. You need to couple to provide you with a list of who is coming to the wedding (ask the in-laws to check that no one from the guest list has been forgotten.) Don't forget to talk about the type of engagement party too. Would they like a plain and simple cocktail party or a dessert party for instance?Perhaps a BBQ or picnic is more in keeping with their taste; no matter what they style be sure it suits the couple's personalities.

Be prepared beforehand. The best engagement party runs smoothly. Don't take the job lightly if you've taken on the responsibility of throwing an engagement party for your friends or family. Prepare things early. Several months before the date of the engagement party talk to vendors, caterers and venues. You must do this in order to assure that they will be available on the day. At least a month beforehand, double check your plans with the location. Review the food and drinks that will be offered and served. Of course, you must also approach the couple's parents, to get them to support the expenses of the party. You have to be aware of all of the details in order to create a celebratory atmosphere.

Ask for assistance. It is okay to turn to someone for help in planning an engagement party, you don't have to pretend to have super powers. In reality, this is the best course of action. Give family members the smaller jobs to do. This will create less work for you to do, while allowing your family to be a part of the process. Maybe you wish to put the bride's sister in charge of invites. Perhaps Mom can lend a hand by ensuring that all food platters are regularly restocked. In addition, you will want someone to be in charge of taking photos during the engagement party. The couple will be really thankful for having the photos. Make sure these people know what they're supposed to do during the engagement party so that there is no confusion over what is going on.

Let's get this party started. There is not a predetermined schedule for engagement parties. An engagement party is just a celebration of a couple taking the next step in their relationship. Being the one who sent the invites, you must make sure that guests are comfortable. If you are going to have a dance floor hire a DJ. Display pictures of the couple from their childhood days. (People enjoy seeing how handsome the groom once was!) So simply encourage a joyous ambiance of festivity and friendship. The guests will make the engagement party a success if you can convey a sense of relaxation.

Remember to make a toast! Toasting the couple is one of the few responsibilities you do have on the night of the engagement party. It is a good idea to plan the toast in advance. You want a good start so let your company know that you appreciate their being there and want them to enjoy themselves. Tell how you know the happy couple, tell a bit of their story and then invite the guests to raise their glasses to toast the newly engaged couple. Quality toasts remind the party of what a great job you did in planning.
