Do not rely on odd financing schemes, such as a second mortgage or a credit card advance that will suck you dry with interest payments, and instead have the cash saved up in an interest bearing account where you can draw from without penalty.

Do not forget that being your own boss does not happen in a vacuum and if you have a family you must ensure that family fully identify with the proposition and are willing to do whatever it takes to help you realize your dream. Be your own boss by first becoming able to explain your venture and your thinking to your family. It is a tried and true adage that stipulates that any venture which you cannot verbally explain to your spouse (without the help or charts and graphs) is doomed to fail.
