[A602]Anxiety Disorders And Children
by Debbie Allen, Deb
A simple definition states that anxiety is worry that is illogical or irrational, it is not based on facts. Obviously a person suffering with an anxiety disorder may not cope well with daily annoyances and frustrations.

Anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental health disorders. It is estimated that approximately 30 percent of the American population may be affected by anxiety disorders.

Anxiety disorders can be chronic and debilitating. The disorder can start at an early age or it can be triggered at any point in life.

The sufferer may feel anxious most of the time. This usually results in feelings of exhaustion and fatigue. This disorder seems to worsen during periods of high stress.

Anxiety attack symptoms are usually accompanied by strange or depressing thoughts and feelings of despair. Anxiety attacks occur without warning and the sufferer may experience any or several symptoms, such as hypertension, palpitations, sweating, headaches, plus many others.

During an anxiety attack the sufferer feels overwhelming fear. But the fear is not reality based. However, the body will respond as if the fear is real. There is an adrenaline release and if there is a real threat the body will use the adrenaline to effectively Fight or Flight. Since this is not a real threat the body will experience and maintain a higher level of symptoms that then escalates into an anxiety attack.

Credibility is given to the symptoms of the anxiety attack which perpetuates more fear and increased symptoms. The anxiety cycle is created.

The cycle is often repeated throughout the life of the sufferer. Many sufferers limit their activities and social outings according to the anxiety attacks. If a sufferer finds a particular situation that seems to provoke the attacks it is likely that he/she will avoid those places if at all possible.

Depending on the severity of the disorder many sufferers slowly and eventually limit activities outside of the home to the absolute minimum. Because most sufferers perceive the home as a safe zone it is the place of choice.

Overtime, with less and less social activity and companionship of others the sufferer is likely to develop depression. Unfortunately many people with anxiety disorders, even if combined with depression, will not seek treatment.

If you or a loved one are suffering with the symptoms of an anxiety disorder you should know that there is help available. Take control of your life and end the anxiety.

Nowadays more and more people are finding it hard to fall asleep at night, just lying in bed struggling to find slumberland because they are anxious and troubled by the problems in their lives. Reasons for these disproportionate worrying might vary from stress from the office, feeling the anxiety when trying to cram for an exam or when you are about to talk to your superior about something. All of these might be troubling but have you ever considered that the restlessness might not actually be real anxiety at all?

Compared to the past, humanity seems to live their lives everyday full of troubles and worries. When we turn on the television we always see the news reporting all sorts of mind-numbing suspicions. We hear news about what our infant's milk actually contains and questions regarding our children and can they achieve good results when they finally finish high school. With all these news around, no wonder we are becoming more and more worried with life. We would burden ourselves with problems in the society such as the crime rate in our neighborhood, the economic situation, poverty, diseases, children's school results and so much more. We might as well call our newspapers "Nothing but worries".

If we want to handle our stress and worries the correct way, the first thing to do is to classify it. We can identify the appearance of anxiety problems by looking for signs that are related to it. One of the main symptoms is the person appearing to be feeling uneasy all the time, finding it hard to relax and rest, feeling unsteady and so on. Feeling the heart beating faster than normal and also dizziness is also a sign of anxiety. You will feel something grumbling in your stomach and breathing is a laborious effort for you.

Patients suffering from anxiety disorder would always be surrounded by the feeling of dread. Tomorrow is a fearful uncertainty for you because you are scared of what might happen tomorrow that could cause harm to you and your family and close friends. People suffering from these problems would also suffer symptoms like inability to sleep, lack of patience when handling daily matters, and also suffering from the incapability to focus. People around you always tell you that you have a short fuse and would lose your temper very easily.

If you find yourself or anyone around you being tormented by these agonies for more than a few weeks, then it is likely that he or she is currently being affected by generalized anxiety disorder. If the problem is serious or severe enough then most probably you are suffering from extreme irrational fear. The term normally refers to situation where the person has fear for certain conditions and happenings. Normally phobias would mean that the person would do everything to avoid the matter or the point of fear. In these cases, the person would know in his or her mind that something is wrong, but still he cannot get himself to stop the problem from worsening. If the sickness is very serious, then it is considered a full blown anxiety dysfunction. Phobias would normally be suffered by people who have serious anxiety, but people who suffer from anxiety abnormality.

People should realize that for phobias, there are three major types. The inability for the person to go to a public place ranging from the local shopping malls to the neighborhood park is referred to as agoraphobia. The starting point for the fear in the mind of the person is that he or she is unable to get away from the area safely should something happen. Meanwhile, the condition of fearing the chance of two way communication with another person happening is widely known as social phobia. For this phobia, the striking fear exists in the mind due to the fact that the person is scared of humiliating himself in front of others through his speech or actions. The final phobia is known as simple phobia where the patient has fear for only a certain object or a situation happening to him. It might range from fearing certain types of animals to fearing high risk activities such as flying.

The problem of anxiety disorder can lead to more serious and damaging predicaments, most probably a sudden panic disorder. These kind of sudden attacks would cause sudden increase in the body's heartbeat, chest discomfort, feeling light in the head, sudden heavy perspiration, and the never-ending fear of passing away. Suffering from these symptoms for too long would e very devastating for a person, since the symptoms would cause the person to have difficulties performing his or her daily duties. Even more certain is that the problem would ruin the person's social life since it would prevent the person from interacting frequently with others, thus making the person a loner.

The anxiety that the people feels are caused by several different factors. The several common causes are excessive strain in the mind, his or her appetitive disappear, and having irregularities in the body. In the modern world the problem is often treated by using drug prescriptions such as the more popular Clonidine or Clonazepam. But patients will have to be very careful when asking for these drugs because they have strong effect therefore they would have obvious side effects and there has been reports stating that the patients overdose themselves because they are addicted to the drug.

Another way to overcome the mental difficulties is by joining a focus group. There is bound to be strong relationships developing when a bonding group of people are always together discussing their difficulties in handling the same problem. Sometimes you can find inspiration from unexpected sources, especially from people who are trying to overcome the same problem. When you are able to overcome the thought that you are alone, then it is easier to pass through it.

Suffering from these anxiety disorders can be really harming and tormenting for the person, mainly because it ruins your self confidence, makes you feel bad about the image you are projecting to others around you, harming the relationship between your parents and yourself. If the signs is happening for too long, it might lead to panic attacks then it becomes a whole new story. But, thankfully the experts and researchers have come out with various ways to stopping the problem after extensive studies. One can look for the right experts and after the proper treatments and medications, then they can learn and go around the illness to go on with their daily lives. People will have to remember that like other illnesses, the patient will have to dedicate their full effort and time in order to overcome the problem effectively and so it would not return to harm them again. With enough time and dedication, one should be able to find the suitable treatment that suit their body and also their mind.
