[A601]Anxiety Attacks Self Help
by Trevor Sinclair, Tre
If you experience panic attacks you are not the only one. Depending on the severity of the attack these are some of the symptoms you can feel. You can feel like you have a weight on your chest, it is hard to breath and you feel your heartbeat racing. Along with sweaty palms, difficulty in thinking straight and the room seems to be spinning out of control.

If you have anxiety attacks, isolation and shame are probably common feelings to accompany your panic. As these episodes don't make sense, it can contribute to these negative feelings. But to be cured, you have to face these feelings and deal with them, be it through anxiety self help techniques, medication, or other resourced that are available.

Most panic attacks are triggered through your body's instinctive response to danger with "fight or flight." The perceived threat causes your brain and nervous system to kick into action even if there is no danger in reality. Once you are able to recognize why your body is reacting to the threats in the environment this way, you will be closer to overcoming the anxiety.

An accepted anxiety self help method is self hypnosis. When a panic attack comes along, inhale deeply, then exhale, and repeat this some couple of times. While inhaling and exhaling, count backwards from ten or twenty. Concentrate on relaxing your muscles initially from the feet going up to the top of your head.

One tool that people use to assist them in overcoming attacks is visualization. This is accomplished by thinking about a "safe place" in their mind, perhaps a beautiful nature spot. It might also be a favorite location or place from childhood or a favorite room in the house. When the initial symptoms of a panic attack ensue, the individual imagines being in the safe space, and they will begin to feel more at-ease and able to handle the stress.

If these anxiety self help techniques aren't helping, you should probably do some more investigating. There are many books and websites that are exclusively for people who suffer from panic attacks. Don't continue to be a casualty of panic attacks. A little work on your part can give you great results.

Finding out how to stop panic attacks can help you to feel more relaxed in your everyday life. You will no longer fear going out in public because you will know how to control your body's panic reaction. You might still have panic attacks, but with the confidence that you know how to control them and will not be overwhelmed by them.

Therefore, it can make both your work life and your social life an impossible task, as they can be very overwhelming both mentally and physically. But take your heart first; there is help for your anxiety attacks, in the form of medicines and behavioral therapy to get you through them.

Doctors are also sometimes baffled at what the causes are and why it is happening, whilst there are sometimes causes for anxiety attacks. Some persons have imbalances of chemicals in the brain or seem to have a particular type of internal wiring that causes these attacks sporadically, like sudden surges of electricity that are without warning or cause.

Scientists still have so much to learn about the human brain and its wiring and workings, so it is really not a surprise that they are at a loss when it comes to something as abnormal as unprovoked anxiety attacks.

Physicians and doctors have found out that numerous medications such as Zoloft or Paxil have a calming effect on the processes that control or spark anxiety and compulsions. These medicines keep the hormones and other elements responsible for anxiety attacks on an even keel, so to speak. They can keep somebody more calm at all times, and work well irrespective of the type of anxiety, be it panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, or even obsessing compulsive disorder.
