[H757]How Do You Get Rid Of Stretch Marks
by Maia Pells, Mai
Stretch marks affect both men and women. When? The first appearance of stretch marks usually occurs during puberty. The reason behind this is that during this stage, a teen's body undergoes rapid growth and the skin is expanding at a very fast rate. Hormonal imbalances also contribute to the development of these marks.

Causes - Pregnant women are especially prone to this because in addition to an expanding body, their hormones also undergo changes. Men who work out or take steroids are also affected by stretch marks. Usually the marks appear on the abdomen and hips. Stretch marks that are found on the legs and arms will be easily seen by other people especially if you wear shorts or short sleeved shirts. Obesity also plays a major role in the development of stretch marks.

What are stretch marks? Stretch marks are actually considered to be skin scars. If it is hard to remove scars on the surface of the skin, imagine removing those that are found in the middle layer of the skin. This is what actually happens when stretch marks on your skin start to develop. The inner layer of the skin called the dermis has skin tissues that stretch and stretch when the body expands at a fast rate. Once the tissues have reached their stretching limit, they now begin to break and the stretch marks or scars start to appear.

This also interrupts the production of collagen which makes things worse because collagen is the agent that heals tissues. Therefore, the skin can no longer heal itself. As was mentioned before, stretch marks can develop in the different parts of the body and the stretch marks on legs are one of the hardest to get rid of.

How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks?

Regular Exercise - Some stretch marks fade over time but most of them do not completely disappear. One of the most difficult stretch marks to remove is on the legs. If you have stretch marks on legs, you will need to do exercises like running and jogging. It is also important for you to eat the right foods so you can stay in your right weight. However, if you are too tired to do exercises everyday, there are more drastic treatments like undergoing surgery.

Surgical Procedure - One of the more famous surgical procedure is the tummy tuck. This type of surgery is actually meant to remove stubborn fat from the abdomen but is now used to remove stretch marks as well. Although the results are satisfying but this method cannot be used for stretch marks on legs.

Laser Treatment - Laser treatment is a less painful and expensive procedure that can get rid of stretch marks on legs. However, there are risks involved in this method and it is important that the physician who administers it is highly trained and certified. If you fear taking risks and would like to spend less to remove stretch marks on legs, then using topical creams is the solution for you.

Stretch Mark Creams - There is one cream in the market that uses all natural ingredients and none of those harsh chemicals. This solution can heal your tissues and stimulate collagen production. Aside from making the stretch marks on legs disappear, the natural ingredients will make your skin more elastic and firm and prevent it from developing new scars.

In these times of cultural emphasis on physical perfection, anyone who is struggling with stretch marks on their skin may be concerned about their appearance, their location, and their marring of otherwise healthy-looking tissue. Yet most stretch marks are harmless in themselves; they merely represent the fact that skin in a certain area has been pulled or stretched beyond its original position or placement on the body, which can occur during pregnancy when the abdomen increases to accommodate the growing baby, or during weight gain, as extra pounds pull the skin beyond its original boundaries.

Sometimes stretch marks appear of their own volition, depending on your skin's elasticity and the type of exercises or daily movements you make that could impact your skin's conditioning. Dry skin may seem to shrivel in spots and lose its elasticity, producing reddish squiggly lines that will eventually shrink and fade, but perhaps not quite disappear. Although millions of people live with this condition and don't seem to mind a certain amount of stretched skin area, others fight the appearance of stretch marks with vehemence, determined to make their body as beautiful and smooth as it was before these tell-tale wrinkles appeared.

As with most unwanted conditions, prevention is the best treatment. To avoid the appearance of those fine lines on areas that are most likely to be affected, including the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and the underside of the upper arms, make a point of eating a healthy diet. Most of us need at least two fruits and three fresh or cooked vegetables each day, along with a well-balanced set of meals that provide the nourishment we need to get and stay healthy. Some people may even want to take a multivitamin to be sure they are getting adequate protection.

Another thing that some experts recommend is to drink at least eight glasses of clear fluids daily. Water helps to rinse away bodily debris to keep skin supple and clear. Some medical researchers believe that drinking plenty of water can improve circulation and cleanse the body of toxins, both of which may help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Avoid gaining extra pounds. Your frame has only a certain ability to accommodate all the weight you put on. After the limit is reached, extra tissue in the form of excess weight can become stretched and dimpled to create an unattractive and unhealthy impression. If you are already overweight, consult your doctor about a plan to lose the extra pounds.

Women who plan to get pregnant should follow a sensible diet. They also may want to rub baby oil or cocoa butter on their abdomens to keep them supple. Some women claim this helps to prevent the formation of stretch marks. Ask your doctor if this might work for you.

Of course, if all else fails, wear clothes that cover the offensive marks. But chances are that no one but you would notice them anyway, so bear them proudly as evidence of your life-giving ability, if you are a mother, or of your successful weight loss efforts if the marks are due to pounds you have lost.
