[H733]How Can I Learn Spanish
by Ben Shar, Ben

To learn Spanish, you could invest a lot of money in a college education in which you could earn a degree in the language. You would end up very fluent and very well versed in the history of it. But, this is costly and, well, time consuming. If you need to learn Spanish you will probably want a more speedy result. And, you can find this without a problem in several areas. In fact, you may even consider teaching your kids a second language as well. Learning Spanish should be fun, entertaining, and exciting!

Think back to when you learned to speak English. What? You don't remember that? Well, of course you don't! You were more than likely just a child. But, how can a child learn to speak a language? It is through the use of pictures, sounds, and hearing the language on a daily basis that helps them to learn. Unfortunately, this won't work for our quest to learn how to speak Spanish, will it? Yes, it can. In fact, the best way to learn something new like this is to see, hear, and experience it daily.

You can learn to speak Spanish through a variety of ways. You can learn it by studying in a book. You can learn it from watching videos on the television. And, you can learn Spanish through the online adventures. In fact, you can even purchase programs to help you with each aspect of learning the language. By using these programs, you will get the repetition that is necessary while learning how to speak fluently. You will need to expose yourself to the language daily and it will often be challenging, but in every way that counts, it will be learned.

Finding these software programs isn't hard. If you choose to go the tapes and videos route, many of your favorite department stores will carry beginning level learn Spanish tapes. But, if you want quality programs either for the television or for the computer, always turn to your online sources. Learning Spanish will be fun!

Learning Spanish At Home: 1. Take Online Spanish Courses - We discussed the various aspects of this in our previous installment. With online courses you can take them at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home. Your Online Spanish course may or may not have a real live Online Spanish tutor who speaks and works with you in real-time. Be careful because some say online Spanish tutor, but it is just a computer program online that is giving you pre-programmed tips. Make sure you are getting the level of interaction and personalization that you feel you need. You can either do the training with your keyboard and mouse, or if your computer has a microphone and headphones, you can actually learn conversational Spanish online with a real live Spanish teacher.

2. Library Books - Your local library should have Spanish lesson books and / or tapes that you can check out and take home with you. By using these books and tapes you can learn Spanish rather quickly, but you still can go at whatever pace you want it to. The downside to this is the lack of interaction and live practice since you are by yourself.

3. Correspondence School - This is a school where you take classes at home and mail in your homework. This is another method of learning at home and learning at your own pace. The downsides to this method include the lack of real-time interaction, lack of live practice, and waiting for the mail to bring your grades as well as your next assignment.

4. Live Spanish Tutor - With this method a tutor comes to your home and teaches you Spanish. You will be given assignments and homework just like school students. The downside to this is it may be hard to find someone who will do this. Also it may get to be quite expensive.

5. Special Interest College Courses - Often, most of the foreign languages are offered for a small fee at the local colleges as a special interest. This might be one to two nights a week for approximately two hours. You do have to go to the local college, but you still can do a great percentage of the training at home.

6. DVD or CD/ROM - With this method of learning, you play a CD/ROM on the computer, or DVD on the television. You can stop the disc and practice and you can learn as you go. This is another way of the self-paced programs that you can try if you want to learn Spanish in your home. Also many kid's television programs also have some Spanish lessons on them. You could learn the basics watching the show and get deeper involved as you go. Again, the downside is that you don't get to really interact with a live Spanish speaker to help improve your conversational Spanish skills.

So no matter what method you choose, it will probably be the best method for you, if you consider what your goals and how you best learn. There is no right way or wrong way to learn Spanish. You took that first step when you said 'teach me Spanish'.
