[H857]How To Beat Heat
by Jim Brown, Jim
The summer season is almost in. And what would be a more refreshing and natural way to cool your bodies than a tasty, juicy slice of watermelon? That would certainly be a delightful treat after a long summer day. You could almost taste the sweet pink juice oozing out and trickling down your chin as you bite onto its red, rich, sweet flesh.

Watermelon (or Citrullus lanatus) is a fruit of a vine-like herb originally cultivated in South Africa and was described by David Livingstone, an explorer of Africa, to have come from the Kalahari Desert. It was a popular of source of water in the diet of the people in the ancient times especially during periods of drought. It was even used by Egyptians to be placed in the burial tombs of their pharaohs to nourish them in their afterlife.

Watermelons are an ideal health food because it is fat-free, cholesterol-free, contains 90% water and is a great source of vitamins and minerals. One of which is iron. Watermelons are often regarded as an "iron fruit" because it is rich in iron as spinach is. But unlike spinach, it doesn't have oxalic acids that bind with iron inhibiting its absorption in the body.

Iron is essential in the development and preservation of our bodies. It helps boost energy therefore making our bodies active. It plays a key role in transporting oxygen from the lungs to all other parts of the body. It is also helpful in preserving and strengthening all the organs in the body as it plays a key role in enzyme systems responsible for energy production and metabolism.

Significant amounts of essential nutrients such as Vitamin A, B6, C, beta-carotene, and lycopene are also provided by watermelons. Vitamin A provides the body with good eyesight (preventing at the same time eye-related ailments) and better bone growth and development. It also helps regulate the body's immune system.

Vitamin B6 is essential for protein metabolism and red blood cell metabolism. It also helps increase the amount of oxygen transported to our tissues and organs.

Vitamin C and beta-carotene are very potent antioxidants the body needs to fight against free radicals that can lead to cancer cell formation. Beta-carotene is also tightly connected with Vitamin A that helps the heart to function well. They are also natural anti-wrinkling and anti-ageing agents of the skin.

Lycopene is a naturally occurring red pigment found in plants and is also a very active carotenoid that functions as an antioxidant, as well. It also inhibits cholesterol formation and helps improve long term and short term memory.

Also, because of its high water content, watermelons also help detoxify our bodies and aid the kidneys to eliminate body waste. It is also very beneficial when used in certain weight loss programs. Other essential nutrients present in a raw slice of watermelon include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, zinc and dietary fibers.

Amazing isn't it? A simple slice to cool you off on a sunny day is loaded with vitamins and minerals your body needs to function well. It certainly is a wonderful treat!

The summer season is not much a friendly season for your hair. Just like the dry winter you need to take some special protective measures for your hair during the summer also. The summer sun and the humidity also cause a lot of damage for your hair. Thus with the advent of summer a number of hair problems starts cropping up. Making the hair dry, frizzy, brittle and with split ends. Therefore with the advent of summer we must start giving special care towards our hair before it's too late.

The most crucial step for proper hair care during the summer is to follow some steps of hair care regimen to prevent the damage caused by the UV rays of the sun and the humidity of the weather. Following are some tips for a protective hair care during the summer.

1.The primary step to protect the hair from the UV rays of the sun is to wear a straw hat or a scarf before stepping out into the sun. This will mitigate the direct exposure of the hair to the sun. While using a scarf remember to keep it loose enough to allow scalp circulation.

2.Try to avoid the direct exposure to the sun as much as possible. You can also keep it knotted or wear a bun to avoid the total exposure to sun.

3.It is always better to have a short hairstyle during the summer. Not only that it helps in keeping your hair better but also it is much helpful as you are away of the excess burden of hair during the summer.

4.Whenever you need to stay for a long time in the sun always use a sunscreen to the hair before stepping out in the sun.

5.It may be that your hair may get somewhat damaged in spite of taking protecting measures. In that case you may use some hair repair mask specially made for sun damage. Choose the one suitable for your hair type and hair texture.

6.Always try to avoid additional heat to your hair. It is strongly recommended to keep away from hair dryers or curlers, or other such tools that uses heat technology for styling your hair. Hot water hair wash should also be avoided so that your hair may not get damaged by the heat.

7.Using alcohol to the hair makes the hair frizzy and dry. Therefore it is required that instead of using products with alcohol try to use some natural ones.

8.The heat during the summer makes the hair deprived of moisture. On the other hand shampooing on daily basis does similar harm to the hair. Therefore it is recommended to use some moisturizing shampoo instead of a normal one.

9.Try to use some powder treatment to your hair instead of shampooing regularly. Sprinkle some baby powder on your hair and comb it.

10.Deep conditioning of the hair is much of a necessity. Therefore after each shampoo don't forget to use some deep conditioning treatment to your hair.

11.As the body looses a lot of water, therefore it becomes necessary to drink a lot of water and to keep your hair hydrated as far as possible.

Now with all these tips it is true that you can easily beat the heat of the sun. And the thing that should always be kept in mind that, taking preventive measures is always of much help rather than the after care of the hair when the hair has already got damaged.
