Found Asbestos? Then Call The Asbestos Removal Specialist
by Rick Martin, Ric
When it comes to remodeling older homes, homeowners usually find themselves at crossroads when it comes to finding asbestos in these homes. The homeowner then has to deal with having the asbestos removed in many of these older homes. Many homes that were built before the 80's had some form of asbestos product used in them. Now studies have shown that exposure to asbestos has terrible health consequences. This means that when remodeling or repairing a home that contains asbestos, an asbestos removal specialist needs to be called. Typical areas that might have asbestos are boilers, ceilings, insulation, and many other areas.

Asbestos is linked to cancer and other lung related diseases. It can be the cause of diseases that don't show up for 30 years or more. Today there are still 1000s of products that contain asbestos, and although they are no longer in homes or buildings, they are in products that went into homes some 20 to 30 years ago. Many people may not even know that their home or the building they live in contains asbestos, since asbestos is odorless, tasteless and airborne fibers cannot even be seen by the naked eye.

An easy way to determine if you have any asbestos products in your home or building is by calling in an asbestos removal expert. An expert will be able to conduct tests of different products and will be able to tell you if asbestos removal is needed in the home or building. Removing asbestos or even testing for asbestos is not a do it yourself job, as releasing asbestos fibers into the air can be dangerous to you and anyone else in the house.
In many cases there are other options besides asbestos removal, sometimes the asbestos can be covered or encased by another product, and this is a less expensive procedure than removal, but only an expert will be able to tell you.

When you decide to remove asbestos you need to be sure that you follow all regulations set forth by OSHA, and the EPA as well as any federal and state regulations for its removal.
This is one of the reasons this type of process needs to be done by an expert. This is not a home improvement job you can do yourself. Health and safety regulations require that a licensed asbestos contractor be the one to do this type of project.

Not only that, but when you do have an asbestos project, the contractor is required to get a special permit for the removal process. The copy of that permit, the receipts and notifications get sent to the homeowner as well. When hiring a contractor for removal you need to be sure that the contractor you hire is fully licensed and works in compliance with all regulations.
It is illegal for anyone but trained asbestos contractors to work with asbestos in the removal process. If you wish to learn more about the asbestos removal process you should contact your local EPA or OSHA offices to make sure that the removal process is being done correctly.
