Information About Natural Insecticides
by Stevek, Ste
If you have pests such as caterpillars there are natural insecticides like hot sauce mixed with water and garlic that will make them feel most unwelcome. Having butterflies in your garden does not have to mean their offspring will be settling in. It is best to repell these creatures instead of killing them.

If you have spider mites go out and buy some hydrated lime. Mix this with water, add a drop of soap for stickiness and you have a deterrent to protect your plants.

Tomato leaves mixed with water can repel insects. Soaps are used in several different types of mixtures. But soaps are washed away with rain or automatic sprinklers.

If you choose to use nicotine, be aware that it can be deadly as a concentrate to more than just those pesky aphids. It's not only dangerous as harmful cigarette smoke, but it can be beneficial if used properly on plants. For us, the concentrates can cause convulsions and death. So, don't let that toddler grab your supply by accident. It's usually mixed with sulphur and is not recommended for use on edible plants.

Some natural oils are useful for smothering insects. Using this method for some people may bring on a hint of regret for the creatures. Keep in mind that insects have in the past been responsible for death and disease, not to mention the added competition for our food if not kept in check.

Sprays bought in the supermarket can be quite pricey in comparison to the homemade variety. Some experience with methods of accurate measurement and storage is necessary.

Of course, you can try tricks to rid your problem areas of insects. Like the ants that want to crawl into your hummingbird water. Maybe it doesn't bother the birds, but if it bothers you, you could be imaginative and not have to use any pesticide that may endanger your tiny visiting birds. But tricks aren't always enough. Sometimes you need to use more than one method to keep insect populations under control.

Keeping the hordes of unwanted insects at bay may seem a daunting task and the battle to protect your beloved plants should not spill over into an accidental experience of harm to your family, namely the children and pets. It is all part of being a responsible parent, showing the child that these natural insecticides are potential dangerous to them and training the pet dog to stay away from certain plants treated with your brew of insecticide. One day the children will be using your recipes for insect control themselves, especially after they see how successful you were in combating the foe.
