Fake Ids: Not Harmless Toys
by Adrian Adams, Adr
One popular use of a fake ID is for minors who are attempting to acquire alcohol. This is very wrong and you will get in trouble if caught. In the U.S., the legal age for drinking is 21. If you're not 21, it's not wise to try to buy alcohol. You could go to jail or get a ticket. No matter how bad you want to drink, you should not use a fake id to break the law!

Another thing that people try to acquire with fake IDs is a prescription drug. It is people like this who have made it very difficult for the rest of us to buy cough syrup at the store anymore. Depending on where you live, you may have to show ID and be limited to how often you can buy. This is also not the legal use of a fake ID.

Many immigrants also use fake IDs on a regular basis. People that produce fake IDs and documents for illegal immigrants are paid handsomely for their illegal services. They also face extremely stiff penalties if they are ever caught. They could end up in prison for many years as a result of stealing identities.

If you do decide to get a fake ID, never, ever use it for an illegal purpose. You also should not try to make a fake ID that mimics a real ID such as a driver's license or a military ID. You should only make "novelty" fake Ids.

If you have a fake ID, the best use of it is probably to play a joke on someone. Show it off to your friends; maybe try to convince someone you're someone else. Then let them in on the joke.

Remember to follow the rules. Fake IDs in the wrong hands can be a one-way ticket to jail. No one wants to have something on their permanent record as a result of stupidity. If you obey the laws and do not try to use your ID in an illegal manner, it can be a great tool for a practical joke. If you cross the line and use it in an illegal manner, though, I hope you enjoy spending time in jail!
