[V145]Vitamins For Hair Regrowth
by Dr John Anne, Dr

Our body cannot function without apposite supply of food. Foods are essential to maintain healthy functioning of our system. Essentially, there are six types of nutrients and two types of nutrients. The list of six nutrients may include carbohydrate, fat, protein, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. On the other hand, two non-nutrients may include fiber and water. In practice, our body needs a healthy balance of all nutrients in our diet in order to maintain healthy life. This article focuses on the various types of vitamins that contribute to the hair loss problems.

Para-Aminobenzoic Acid

Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA) is one of the essential vitamins for hair loss problems. It belongs to B complex family. It functions like an anti-grey hair vitamin. A deficiency in PABA may lead to grey hair. Research has shown its effects on animal hair cells. It is seen that when animal cells have been reintroduced to the vitamin, normal coloration is restored.

Few researchers also suggest that PABA in combination with folic acid is found to be effective in restoring healthy hair. Lack of PABA may cause to affect hair color. A diet rich in vitamin B can restore hair color. It also aids in improving excellence and potency of hair growth. You can avail a plenty of PABA in liver, kidney, whole grain and yeast.

Inositol

It also belongs to vitamin B complex group. It is typically found in brain cells, muscles, liver, kidney, and eyes. It is seen that men loss their hair twice as fast as women. It is assumed that men usually lack Inositol, one of the primary vitamins for hair loss problems.

Not only Inositol aids in hair loss problems, but it also offers beneficial effects in different types of skin problems. It is very essential for bald patients. Almost all types of hair loss problems can be sorted out with the use of Inositol vitamin.

Biotin

This is also known as vitamin H. It also belongs to vitamin B complex group. It is also one of the most essential vitamins for hair loss problems. Inadequate supply of this vitamin may cause hair loss problems.

It functions in fat metabolism. Fat is essential for body growth including hair. It also helps in preventing premature graying of hair.

Egg yolks are great source of biotin. It is also available in kidney, liver, milk and yeast.

Vitamin E

It is one of the most beneficial vitamins for hair loss. It consists of antioxidant property that offers scalp stimulation by enhancing blood circulation. You can avail vitamin E from cold-processed vegetable oils, soybeans, raw seeds, and leafy green vegetables.

Although vitamin E offers a whole host of benefits, but the large intake is also associated with possible side effects including an increased blood pressure and decreased blood coagulation ability. So if you are suffering from high blood pressure or if you are taking anticoagulant medications, you should not take vitamin E supplements prior consulting with your doctor.

Vitamin C

It is known to offer anti-oxidizing benefits. It is one of the essential vitamins for hair loss problems. It helps maintaining healthy skin and hair. There are plenty of natural foods available that are rich in vitamin C. Citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries, pineapples, tomatoes, green pepper, red pepper and many others are great source of vitamin C. It is so abundant in nature that you can hardly avoid it in your daily diet.

Vitamin B Complex

Niacin (vitamin B3), Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 contribute significantly in various health conditions. These are known as useful vitamins for hair loss problems. Vitamin B3 helps in promoting scalp circulation. Vitamin B3 is abundant in wheat germ, chicken, fish, turkey, and meat. However, large intake may cause harmful effects, known as niacin flush. Vitamin B5 helps preventing premature graying and hair loss problems. It is primarily available in egg yolks, whole grain cereals, and organ meats.

The active ingredient that is causing the hair regrowth in Propecia is finasteride. Finasteride was first approved and used in 1992 as Proscar. Proscar is a treatment used for prostate enlargement. Proscar helps suppress the formation of DHT which is the hormone thought to cause the increase in size. By treating an enlarged prostate with Proscar, the need for surgery was reduced.

There is 1 mg of finasteride in Propecia (for the purpose of hair growth) and 5 mg in Proscar (for treating prostrate enlargement). While treating patients for prostate enlargement, it was noticed that their was some regrowth of hair in areas of male pattern hair loss.

Being a little tongue in cheek. Its no comfort to know that the side effects of one treatment become the basis of treatment in another.

In further studies, 1 mg of finasteride and demonstrated hair growth in male pattern hair loss. The number of hairs (I'm not sure if it was 4 or 6 hairs, just kidding) increased in the anterior midscalp and vertex.

Patient feed back showed that there was in fact more hair regrowth with the finasteride treatment versus the sugar pill. Side effects were infrequent (it was not stated exactly what infrequent meant) and were related to sexual function.

That's fantastic! So infrequently, does that mean that I will attract more of the opposite sex and then not be able to do anything with that? I'm just saying!

Propecia has not and will not be marketed for women because it causes birth defects, and the safety and amounts needed have not been established in women.

But its o.k. apparently for us men because we are disposable and don't give birth. Any time I see a chemical that is not advised for women because it can cause birth defects, I just have to feel that male or not, there is something going on that shouldn't be.

The FDA's Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee sat down and had a chat about Propecia. The committee offered labeling suggestions in the context of an overall generally favorable discussion. Merck & Co. of West Point, Pa., produces both Proscar and Propecia.

We all know Merck & Co. track record with lawsuits. Vioxx and the osteoporosis drug Fosamax are the first that come to mind. Almost seems to make about as much sense as trusting Exxon to handle your neighborhood environmental project.

Make sure that when you start seeking treatments for hairloss and male pattern baldness that you weigh the pro's of hair regrowth with the possible health concern cons.
