[W142]Ways To Remember Things
by Dave Roth, Dav
There are a lot of ways to remember your customers, but much of it depends on whether you have only a few or whether you have people coming through your business all day long. If you have a small company that only operates locally, you probably know the names of all of the people that purchase from you on any kind of regular basis. If you are like most business people, though, you are trying to expand your business outside of your local area, maybe even take it global in the future. The Internet has made this global idea much easier, but there is a downside as well. Individuals in companies that have gone global can have trouble keeping track of everything. One of the ways that they can avoid some of this is through software for customer relationship management. Often called CRM software, a person can use this software to keep in touch with people that they do business with ? both on the demand side (customers) and the supply side (vendors) so that they are always in the loop when it comes to their business.

CRM is not the only way to remember and keep track of customers, but it is fast becoming one of the easiest and most economical. What company does not have a computer today? Maybe only the tiniest of hobby-businesses, and most of them are operated by people who at least have a computer for their personal needs, if not for their businesses. Since this is the case, it is not that difficult to move to the next level and install CRM software on their computer. By doing this, they are able to keep track of dates, times, phone calls, purchases and returns, names and addresses, and much more. Newsletters can be sent out, customers can be notified of sales through the mail or through email, and buyers and sellers can stay in close touch, so that everyone benefits from the relationship. Naturally, not everyone likes the idea of having so much of their information kept by virtual strangers, but this is the way that society is today, and most people accept it.

The CRM software is really not that intrusive, because it is mainly designed to only store the information that the salesperson puts into it. If a person does not want to provide his or her email address, it is often not required. Companies that sell over the Internet usually ask for it, but they often provide other ways to order, as well, and many people have a junk email address that they use for ordering things and receiving emails from people that they do not know very well. This stops them from feeling as though their personal space is being violated, but companies still have an email address to put into their CRM system and contact the customer in the event of sales or other issues of interest. By handling things in this way, CRM software can be a strong benefit both for the individuals who own businesses and for their customers.
