by Sarah Mcallister, Sar
There are millions of small businesses today that tomorrow will build up to be a million dollar company tomorrow. There are plenty of different things to start up a small business in but you want to make sure that it is going to be reliable and steady. A good place to start out is eBay. With eBay if you know about products, handle finances well, and make sure that you have great customer service then you should be on your way to starting up your very own small business.

Starting off with your small business you have to make sure that you know about your products. So go on the internet do some long extensive research about your products. Also during the research stage make sure that you check out and see which products will be able to give you the best bang for their buck and which products are in the most demand. By bang for the buck I mean the products that are going to be the best cost effective. If you get some of the products that are the hottest in demand and some with the biggest turnarounds then your business should be successful without a doubt.

Following getting the knowledge for your products the next step would be to make sure that you can handle your finances. Make sure that you have enough money to keep ordering shipments of your product and also that you have enough money to ship to everyone. Just make sure that you keep you finances in check because if you dont then you wont have anymore customers because you wont have anymore stuff for them to buy.

The last thing you need to start a small business on eBay is to make sure that you have good customer service. This is the key to having a business is to make sure that you customer service is the best out of everyone else. By having good customer service I mean make sure you ship all your products on time. Also make sure that you leave feedback. This will help you in the long run by gaining customer loyalty and the fact that people will notice that you are so good at delivering their promised products.

Once you take all of these suggestions into your hand then you should be very well off into having your own business. Just remember tomorrow is always a brighter day.

The first questions eBay sellers should ask themselves are: "What can I sell?" and "Where can I buy?"

It's important that you spend some time researching before you decide which products you want to sell.

There are nearly 69 million eBay users who collectively spend $59 million every day.

Most eBay sellers are home-based businesses that sell everything from porcelain dolls to locks of Elvis's hair to $100,000 Mercedes convertibles.

Every minute of every day more than 150 new items are listed for sale, more than 500 bids are placed and seven new people register to shop on eBay.

About two million new items are offered for sale every day, and 62 million registered users scour the site to find them.

All these facts are enough to assure you that there plenty of ways to receive your share of the eBay money pie.

These basic guidelines can help you make money on eBay:

1. Search for the categories that are most popular. The first index is the number of listings that exist under each category. You also need to look at how many bids the products have.

2. Study the ratings of the sellers who are listing products in each category and read their profiles. See how many products they're selling and how many products they've sold in the past.

3. Analyze prices. You need to become an expert in your category and you need to know at which price a product is worth buying as well as the expected final winning price of your auction.

4. Select no more than one or two categories. "Specialization" is a basic rule of marketing. It is better to become an expert on something than know only a little on lots of things. Experts inspire trust and confidence in potential customers. Online marketing is all about trust.

Once you've done the above, you're almost ready to make money on eBay.

Before starting to sell, you need to buy. Here are some ideas from where you can source products:

1. Write your own e-book and sell it. If you have any passion or are an expert on a subject for which you can find a niche in eBay, do not hesitate to spend some time writing your own book.

The advantage of this is that after your initial time investment, you can sell copies of the book without having any additional costs, as e-books are digital.

Selling information products is one of the most profitable ways of earning money on the eBay business. Even if you're not an expert writer, you can find other people who can write the book for you, eg www.elance.com.

2. Use drop-shipping. There are wholesalers that will sell you products and send them to the address that you tell them.

The advantage of this source is that you do not need to carry inventories, so your investments are minimized. After your auction is finished, you send the drop-shipper your customer's address and they will do all the shipping. If you decide to use this kind of source, you need to make sure that your auction's winning price will be higher than the price you will pay for the articles. At minimum, if you have chosen the correct items to sell, you should expect to double your costs.

3. Buy from eBay. Many eBayers' success comes from knowing how to buy well on eBay and sell the same products at a higher price. If you know your category very well, you can easily find opportunities that will allow you to buy and resell, making a profit. Again, solid research is fundamental; including looking for misspellings in the listings in order to scoop up some items at a low price, relisting them properly and selling for a higher price.

4. Sell local products. If you live in an area that produces local products which can be bought at a cheap price and shipped to other areas where people would pay more, you could take advantage of the situation.

Follow these basic guidelines and you'll be on your way to selling on eBay!
